10 Best Zendesk Competitors in 2026

Trusted by750,000+ Techpresso subscribers·426 AI tools reviewed·Editorial team

Suite Team is the invoice teams pay, and Support Team is the cheaper card that drops the messenger. Short answer: Freshdesk Growth at $19/agent/mo, billed yearly, when you still want a help center and can skip Suite's phone tree. Help Scout on its annual Standard seat when the queue is email, and Gorgias when Shopify tickets should replace the seat.

Dupple data: Toolradar's customer-support shelf shows 508 tools evaluated, updated September 2026, and the help-desk shelf shows 28. USD figures here were read from vendor sites on September 24, 2026. A first desk, rather than a Zendesk exit, belongs in the wider support roundup.

Ten desks next to Suite

Product Leave Zendesk when Starting rate What you keep
Freshdesk Same shape of desk, published Enterprise Growth $19/agent/mo yearly Help center on the cheap seat, Copilot on higher plans
Help Scout Email and a shared inbox Standard $25/user/mo yearly Free for 5 users, AI Answers at $0.75
Zoho Desk The smallest yearly seat Express $7/user/mo yearly Free for 3 users, chat starts on Standard
LiveAgent Chat and a help center together Small $15/agent/mo yearly Those channels are on the entry plan
Intercom The in-app messenger Essential $29/seat/mo yearly Fin is $0.99 an outcome, on or off Zendesk
Gorgias Shopify order context Helpdesk Starter $10/mo Tickets, not agents, from 50 a month
HubSpot Service Hub The record is already HubSpot Starter $7/seat/mo yearly Free tools cover 2 users before a seat
Front One shared channel Starter $25/seat/mo yearly Professional opens every channel at $65
Helply Headcount should not move the bill Starter $49/mo Unlimited users, credits for the AI work
Salesforce Service Cloud Cases should live in Salesforce Starter Suite $25/user/mo The desk itself is Core at $195

What you are actually leaving

A Zendesk competitor is support software that can take the email queue, and usually chat or a help center, off a Zendesk agent seat. The plan name decides whether you are escaping a forecastable seat or a resolution pool that is much smaller than the seat.

On Zendesk's pricing page, the annual column is the one marked 20% off. That column lists Support Team at $19 per agent each month, a fit for email, routing, and automations, and the wrong card if you need messaging, live chat, the knowledge base, or telephony. Suite Team lists $55 per agent each month, and that row is where AI agents, the knowledge base, omnichannel routing, messaging, and telephony begin. Suite Professional lists $115, where skills-based routing and the IVR phone tree begin, and Suite Enterprise plus Copilot is a sales conversation.

The resolution allowance is a second line, and it is small. Zendesk's allowance article sets Suite Team and Support Team at $2 per agent seat per month, Professional at $5, and Suite Enterprise at $10. Light agents are excluded, unused allowance does not roll over, and the cap for every plan is $5,000 a year, with 20 Suite Enterprise seats producing a $200 monthly pool.

Only a verified resolution draws that pool, and Zendesk's tier article says an assisted escalation and a contained resolution do not count. Overage can bill automatically, or you can pause the AI agent when the pool is empty.

Copilot adds $50 per agent each month on a yearly contract, and Zendesk says Professional and higher can take it. A Suite Professional trial lasts 14 days and includes Copilot for that window. The startups block on the pricing page is a 6-month Suite trial for up to 50 agents, a window rather than a permanent rate.

If the bill you hate is Intercom's outcome meter rather than this seat, that comparison is the Intercom exit guide.

How we chose

This page keeps 10 products a Zendesk team can price against Suite Team, ordered by the pain: the published Suite seat, email, a cheap seat that still has chat, a Shopify ticket meter, then a CRM the company already runs. No one paid for a rank, and Freshdesk and Help Scout links are affiliate links. Standalone bots sit in standalone support bots.

1

Freshdesk, when you want the same desk with a published top tier

Freshdesk is the switch when the product shape should stay a help desk and the Enterprise price should be on the page. Growth is $19/agent/mo billed annually, the same yearly rate as Support Team, and the card includes a knowledge base plus the first Freddy AI Agent sessions. Pro matches Suite Team's yearly seat, and Enterprise is $89/agent/mo billed annually, a number Suite Enterprise does not print.

Pricing

Annual billing is the discounted column, a 20% save. Freddy AI Copilot is $29/agent/mo on Pro and Enterprise, not on Growth, and you can assign it to some agents rather than every seat. Extra AI Agent sessions are $49 per 100, and the 500 free sessions on those three plans are once per account. The trial is 14 days of Enterprise, no card, then the account suspends.

The catch: Those 500 sessions are a trial pack, not a monthly allowance, so a busy bot moves to the session pack in the first real month.

Verdict

Take Growth when the help center is why Support Team felt incomplete, and Pro when routing is why you were on Suite. Seat math versus a flat workspace fee is in seat fees versus one workspace bill.

2

Help Scout, when the suite was more product than the inbox

Help Scout fits a team whose customers email, and whose agents never opened the phone tree they were funding. Annual billing, marked 16% off, shows Standard at $25 per user each month, Plus at $45, and Pro at $75. AI Answers bills $0.75 each time it resolves a thread, you set the spend cap, and a new account gets three months of that meter at no charge.

Pricing

The unpaid workspace allows 5 people, one shared inbox, a single Docs site, and 100 contacts monthly. Standard holds 25 users, Plus holds 50, and Pro is unlimited with a minimum of 10. Trying Standard or Plus lasts 15 days and does not ask for a card.

The catch: A native phone queue is not on the invoice, so a Suite telephony habit means a second vendor.

Verdict

Switch when the shared inbox is the product you use, and stay if skill-based voice routing is the reason Suite Professional was on the contract. Smaller inboxes are in desks sized for a small team.

3

Zoho Desk, when the yearly user line should stay small

Zoho Desk publishes a USD column, and the yearly side is the lower rate. Express lists $7 per user each month on the annual side, or $9 if you pay month to month. Standard lists $14 yearly or $20 monthly, Professional lists $23 yearly or $35 monthly, and Enterprise lists $40 yearly, or more if you pay month to month. Free covers 3 users, and a no-card trial lasts 15 days, then the account becomes the free edition.

Pricing

Express covers email, social channels, web forms, and AI agents capped at 30 million tokens a month. Chat, articles, and the answer bot appear on Standard. The pricing FAQ caps Standard at 5 users and leaves the higher paid plans uncapped.

The catch: Express is an email desk, so it does not replace Suite Team's messenger.

Verdict

Keep the free edition or Express while the queue is email only, and step up to Standard once the chat widget is why Suite was on the bill. How a vendor hides the rate is in how list prices get hidden.

4

LiveAgent, when chat and the help center should be on the entry plan

LiveAgent bills a USD seat, and the prices on the page are the annual ones. Small is $15/agent/mo billed annually, and the feature list under that price includes ticketing, live chat, and a knowledge base. Medium is the next annual seat, priced like Intercom's entry in the summary, and that is where the call center and IVR start. Large is the seat above Medium, and Enterprise is $69 per agent.

The catch: The sticker is the annual rate, so a monthly quote will not match it.

Verdict

Use Small when chat and articles are the Suite features you touch, and Medium when voice has to move with the tickets. Other widgets are in the chat-widget roundup.

5

Intercom, when the messenger was the point of Suite

Intercom is the switch when customers already talk inside the product and Zendesk messaging was a bolt-on. On the annual bill, Essential is $29/seat/mo, Advanced is $85, and Expert is $132. Fin is $0.99 per outcome on every plan, charged once per conversation, including a handoff that finishes a Procedure.

Pricing

Fin also sells onto a help desk you already run, including Salesforce, at that same outcome rate with no seats. The pricing FAQ's example minimum is 50 outcomes a month, and Copilot, after 10 free conversations per agent each month, is a separate add-on at Freddy's annual Copilot rate. The trial is 14 days, no card, and it includes Fin.

The catch: A quiet bot can cost less than Suite's seat, and a busy bot can pass it, because outcomes are not capped by a $2 pool.

Verdict

Move the messenger here when in-app chat is the channel, and keep a seat-priced desk when you need the month to be forecastable before the bot's volume is known.

6

Gorgias, when the ticket is a Shopify order

Gorgias meters tickets, not agents. On the annual helpdesk, Basic is $50 for 300 tickets, Pro is $300 for 2,000, and Advanced is $750 for 5,000. Paying month to month, those same packs are $60, $360, and $900. Starter stays monthly only, at $10 for 50 tickets. Past the pack, Starter and Basic add $0.40 a ticket and Pro and Advanced add $0.36, and above 5,000 conversations Enterprise publishes no list price.

Pricing

AI Agent is a separate line. Starter's AI line is $30/mo for 30 automated interactions, then $1.50 each, and the page shows that bundle at $40/mo. Gorgias says its product runs conversations for 40% of Shopify brands.

The catch: Hiring does not raise the plan, and a busy month does, so unlimited agents still stop at the ticket pack.

Verdict

Pick it when the agent sidebar has to show the Shopify order, and leave it when there is no order to attach. A help center with no desk around it is article software.

7

HubSpot Service Hub, when the customer record is already there

HubSpot Service Hub fits when support is the missing module on a HubSpot account, not a second system of record. HubSpot's Service Hub pricing guide, updated August 28, 2026, lists free tools at $0 for up to 2 users. Starter lists $7 per seat each month on the annual bill, and Professional lists $90 per seat each month on that same bill. The guide's monthly example for Professional is $100 per seat. Enterprise starts at $150 per seat each month, Professional onboarding is $1,500, and Enterprise onboarding is $3,500.

Pricing

The knowledge base, the customer portal, and Breeze Customer Agent start on Professional. Starter includes 500 HubSpot Credits, Professional 3,000, and Enterprise 5,000. Starter removes branding and still has no help center.

The catch: Leaving Zendesk for articles and buying Starter recreates the Support Team mistake, because the cheap seat is not the help center.

Verdict

Park a tiny queue on the free tools, and buy Professional only after the onboarding fee is in the budget. The wider record choice is in picking a CRM.

8

Front, when the team lives in one inbox

Front fits a team that works from a shared inbox and does not need Suite's IVR. With annual billing checked, a 24% save, Starter matches the Help Scout annual seat in the table, caps at 10 seats, and allows one channel type. Professional is $65/seat/mo for up to 50 seats and opens omnichannel. Enterprise is $105/seat/mo, and those are the annual rates on the page.

Pricing

Autopilot starts at $0.05 per conversation, and Copilot is $20/seat/mo as an add-on or included on Enterprise. You can try Professional for 14 days with no card. Contracts over $25,000 require a paid onboarding package.

The catch: Email and chat cannot share a Starter workspace, so the single Suite Team seat becomes two products.

Verdict

Starter is enough for one channel and fewer than 10 people. Move to Professional once email and chat must sit in the same queue.

9

Helply, when hiring should not add a seat

Helply is the exit when the Zendesk pain is headcount. Groove's site now opens this product. Starter is $49/mo with unlimited users and 3 mailboxes. Pro is $199/mo with 10 mailboxes, SLAs, and a private knowledge base. Scale is $449/mo and adds skills-based routing and HIPAA. Enterprise publishes no list price. Annual billing is 15% off, with credits pooled for the year.

Pricing

The plan is the help desk, and AI work draws credits. Helply's own example prices a 7,000-credit block at $399 on Starter. The trial is 14 days with 1,000 credits and no card.

The catch: Unlimited users do not mean unlimited AI work, and a heavy queue buys the next credit block at the same rate, up to the cap you set.

Verdict

Use Starter when engineers and success managers should see tickets without a new Zendesk seat, and skip it when you need a native phone tree on day one.

10

Salesforce Service Cloud, when Zendesk was only the sidecar

Salesforce Service Cloud is the move when the account already lives in Salesforce and Zendesk was only attached beside it. In the USD column, Starter Suite is the small-business rate in the summary, payable monthly or yearly, and transaction fees sit on top. Pro Suite lists $100 per user each month as a starting price, on an annual contract, with more fees. Core, the service CRM, lists $195 per user each month on an annual USD contract. Advanced lists $395 and Max lists $550, both annual and in USD.

Pricing

Starter Suite packs sales, service, marketing, and commerce into one bundle. Core is the desk: case management plus a self-service help center on that seat.

The catch: Comparing Starter Suite with Support Team, then discovering the service desk is Core, misreads the ladder by a wide gap.

Verdict

Take Core when the case has to live in Salesforce, and treat Starter Suite as the small-business bundle only after the fees are on the quote.

What 10 people actually cost

Ten full seats show the Suite premium before any resolution overage. Suite Team at the yearly rate is $550, and Support Team for the same ten people is $190 with no messaging. Freshdesk Growth matches that cheaper card and keeps the help center. LiveAgent Small is $150 with chat and articles included.

Ten-person setup Monthly bill What that number assumes
10 Suite Team seats, yearly $550 Seats only, until the resolution pool runs out
Zendesk Support Team, yearly rate $190 Email only, no help center
Freshdesk Growth, yearly rate $190 No Copilot, and the 500 sessions do not refresh
Freshdesk Pro, yearly rate $550 Suite-sized seats, Copilot still extra
Help Scout Standard, annual rate $250 Resolutions billed separately
Zoho Desk Standard, yearly rate $140 Chat and the help center, not the Express seat
LiveAgent Small, yearly rate $150 Voice waits for the next plan
Intercom Essential, annual seats $290 Outcomes not included
Gorgias Basic helpdesk, monthly $60 300 tickets, agents not metered
HubSpot Starter, 10 yearly seats $70 Branding off, still no help center
HubSpot Professional, 10 yearly seats $900 Help center included, onboarding billed once
Front Professional, 10 yearly seats $650 Mixed channels, inside the 50-seat limit
Helply Starter $49 Every user included, credits still extra
Salesforce Starter Suite, 10 users $250 Transaction fees sit outside the seat
Salesforce Core, 10 yearly seats $1,950 Cases and the help center

Ten Suite Team seats also get a $20 resolution allowance that month, and that pool is the AI budget until you buy more or pause the agent. A busy Fin month is a different shape of bill and can pass the seat.

How to choose

Email plus a help center, and no phone tree, points to Freshdesk Growth or LiveAgent Small.

A messenger you can forecast stays on Suite Team, and Intercom Essential is the pick when you want to pay for outcomes instead.

Shopify points to Gorgias sized by tickets, because a new hire does not change that invoice and a busy month does.

A HubSpot or Salesforce record points to Service Hub Professional after onboarding, or Core when the case has to live there, and the starter editions skip the help center or the desk.

Headcount points to Helply's workspace fee, or Zoho Standard once the team needs chat.

Common mistakes

Buying Support Team to replace Suite buys an email desk, because messaging, the knowledge base, and telephony start on Suite Team, so the cheaper renewal is a different product.

Treating the allowance as unlimited AI. Ten Suite Team agents fund a $20 pool that month, verified resolutions draw it, and assisted escalations do not. Past the cap, the default is overage billing unless someone turns that off.

Assuming Freddy's 500 sessions refresh. Freshworks says that pack is once per account, and after it sessions bill at the Freshdesk pack rate.

Expecting articles on HubSpot Starter repeats the Support Team gap, because the help center starts on Professional, with onboarding of $1,500.

Calling Gorgias unlimited. Basic is 300 tickets, and past that overage is $0.40 each on the monthly helpdesk.

Reading Starter Suite as the service desk. Core is the case product.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Zendesk competitor in 2026?

Freshdesk Growth, on a yearly bill, is the default when you still want tickets and a help center and can drop Suite's phone tree. Choose Help Scout when the work is email and a $0.75 resolution fee is acceptable. Choose Gorgias when the inbox is a Shopify store.

How much does a Zendesk competitor cost?

The cheapest printed paid plan in this set is Gorgias helpdesk Starter, $10 a month for 50 tickets. Zoho Desk Express is the small yearly per-user email seat. Suite Professional stays at $115 per agent each month on the annual column. Salesforce Core is $195 per user each month on a yearly bill, and Freshdesk Enterprise is $89 per agent each month billed annually, a top tier Zendesk does not print.

Is there a free alternative to Zendesk?

Yes, with caps a Suite team will outgrow. Help Scout lets 5 people share one inbox at no charge, Zoho Desk's free edition covers 3 users, and HubSpot's free tools cover 2 users. Freshdesk's unpaid look is a 14-day Enterprise trial, then the account suspends.

Is Freshdesk cheaper than Zendesk?

Growth matches Support Team's yearly rate and adds a knowledge base, so it is cheaper than Suite Team for a team that does not need the phone tree. Pro matches Suite Team's yearly seat. The Copilot add-on is $29/agent/mo on Freshdesk and $50/agent/mo on Zendesk Professional and above. Enterprise is published on Freshdesk and is a sales conversation on Zendesk.

Does Zendesk include AI in the seat price?

AI agents are on Support and Suite, and successful verified resolutions draw a dollar allowance, not an unlimited bot. Team plans include $2 per agent seat per month, and the yearly cap is $5,000. Copilot, the agent assistant, is a separate $50 seat on Professional and higher.

Which competitor fits a Shopify store?

Gorgias, because the meter is tickets rather than agents. The monthly Advanced helpdesk is $900 and includes 5,000 tickets, while Starter starts at 50. A store that wants a chat widget without a ticket pack should look at chat widgets instead of forcing that volume into a seat.

Can I keep Zendesk AI and change the help desk?

Forethought AI agents by Zendesk are sold as agents that also run on another platform, and that plan does not include a resolution allowance. You would buy the allowance from sales, and the new desk still sends its own invoice. Intercom's Fin can sit on some existing desks at $0.99 an outcome with no seats, with a minimum commitment.

Bottom line

Leave for Freshdesk Growth when the help center matters and the phone tree does not, and price Pro only when you already accepted a Suite-sized seat. Help Scout is the email exit, Gorgias is the Shopify exit, and HubSpot or Salesforce is the exit when the customer record already sits in that CRM. Helply and Zoho Desk are the invoices that stop growing with every new hire. Write the seat and the resolution allowance for the same month before you cancel.
