Cheaper Asana Alternatives in 2026: What a 10-Person Team Pays on Each
On 20 Oct 2026, 10 seats of Asana Starter cost $1,318.80 a year, billed yearly, and cover the five features priced here: list and board views, a timeline or Gantt view, forms, automation rules and dashboards. Zoho Projects Premium is the cheapest of nine alternatives that lists all five: $480.00 a year, $838.80 (63.6%) less.
Premium caps workflow rules at 2 per layout; Smartsheet Pro is the next cheapest plan listing all five, at $1,080.00 a year with 250 automations a month.
Toolradar data: Toolradar tracks 363 project management tools (subcategories included) as of October 20, 2026, and 46% of them are free, freemium or open source. The median cheapest paid plan is $15/mo across the 135 that publish a price.
Dupple data: we read 10 vendor pricing pages on 20 Oct 2026, and all 10 publish a price for a plan that fits 10 seats. Five of the nine alternatives cost less than Asana Starter at 10 seats, but only two of those five list all five features, and the other four alternatives cost more.
| Tool | Plan priced | Price and billing | 10 seats, a year | Against Asana Starter | Of the five features | Hidden costs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Asana Starter (baseline) | Starter | $10.99 per user, billed yearly | $1,318.80 | Baseline | All five | $13.49 per user billed monthly, or $1,618.80 a year |
| Zoho Projects | Premium | $4 per user, billed yearly | $480.00 | $838.80 less (63.6%) | All five | 2 workflow rules per layout and 500 automation actions a month; the form is a Web-to-Issue form |
| Smartsheet | Pro | $9 per member, billed yearly | $1,080.00 | $238.80 less (18.1%) | All five | Stops at 10 members; 250 automations a month; Business is $19 per member billed yearly |
| ClickUp | Business | $12 per user, billed yearly | $1,440.00 | $121.20 more (9.2%) | All five | Unlimited at $7 lists dashboards only as a trial; $19 billed monthly; a hidden layout shows Business at $17 ($2,040.00) |
| monday.com | Standard | $12 per seat plus AI credits, billed yearly | $1,680.00 | $361.20 more (27.4%) | All five | Page shows $120 a month after a special discount; $140 is the full total; 250 automation actions a month |
| Wrike | Business | $25 per user, billed yearly | $3,000.00 | $1,681.20 more (127.5%) | All five | Forms start on this tier; Team at $10 lacks them; annual billing only |
| Basecamp | Freelancer | $25 flat a month, billed monthly | $300.00 | $1,018.80 less (77.3%) | 1 of 5 | 3 active projects and 20 users; Studio is $59 a month |
| ProofHub | Essential | $45 flat a month, billed yearly | $540.00 | $778.80 less (59.1%) | 3 of 5 | No automation rules or dashboards row; Ultimate Control is $135 a month after a three-month offer |
| Trello | Premium | $10 per user, billed yearly | $1,200.00 | $118.80 less (9.0%) | 4 of 5 | No forms on any plan; Standard at $5 lacks Timeline and Dashboard |
| Freedcamp | Enterprise | $16.99 per user, billed yearly | $2,038.80 | $720.00 more (54.6%) | 3 of 5 | No forms or automation rules row; Business at $7.49 lacks dashboards |
Each total is the plan price times 10 seats times 12 months, or the flat monthly price times 12 for Basecamp (billed monthly) and ProofHub, in US dollars read on the vendor pages linked in each pick. A plan missing one of the five is priced at the next plan that lists it; a vendor with no such plan is priced at the cheapest plan that fits 10 seats and lists the most. Rows run in two blocks: the five vendors with a plan listing all five, cheapest first, then the other four in the same cost order.
What counts as a cheaper Asana alternative?
A cheaper Asana alternative lists the same five features as Asana Starter for a lower yearly bill at 10 seats.
How we priced it
This is a price comparison built from vendor pricing pages, plan tables and help pages, not a test of the software. Feature ticks come from each plan table's own icons or labels, and list and board views from task-view pages where the table has no row. Automation caps are shown beside the price. Where a vendor's pages disagree, the pick says so, and promotions are labelled, never used in a ranked total.
Zoho Projects Premium: the lowest all-five bill, with tight automation caps
Zoho Projects' pricing page lists Premium at $4 per user per month billed annually ($5 billed monthly), Enterprise at $9 and Ultimate at $14. The edition comparison shows Gantt charts on every plan, 5 project dashboards on Premium, a Web-to-Issue form from Premium and workflow rules on every plan. List views and a Kanban board come from Zoho's features page, not the plan table. Ten Premium seats cost $480.00 a year.
The catch is the automation allowance and the form. Premium allows 2 workflow rules per layout and 500 automation actions a month on the comparison page, although the pricing page's card says 5,000. Enterprise raises both to 20 rules and 50,000 actions, which prices 10 seats at $1,080.00. The only form listed in Projects itself is a Web-to-Issue form, and Zoho Forms appears as an integration.
Pick it when the lowest total matters more than automation depth.
Smartsheet Pro: all five, until the 11th member
Smartsheet's pricing page lists Pro at $9 per member per month billed yearly for 1 to 10 members. The Pro column lists Gantt, table, board and calendar views, unlimited forms, unlimited dashboards with 10 widgets each, and 250 automations a month. Ten members cost $1,440.00 a year if billed monthly.
The catch is the ceiling. Business starts at 3 members, costs $19 per member billed yearly ($24 monthly), and is where the page lists the timeline view, conditional form logic and unlimited automations. An 11th member needs Business, which makes 11 seats $2,508.00 a year against $1,450.68 for Asana Starter.
Pick it for a team that will stay at 10 or fewer paid members and wants unlimited forms and dashboards.
ClickUp Business: all five, priced above Asana
ClickUp's pricing page lists Business at $12 per user per month billed yearly ($19 billed monthly) and Unlimited at $7. Unlimited lists unlimited forms, Gantt charts and 500 active automation rules with 1,000 executions a month, but its Dashboards row reads Trial. Business lists dashboards, timeline views and 5,000 executions, so it is the five-feature plan.
The catch is the price: 10 seats cost $121.20 more than Asana Starter, and the step up from Unlimited is $600.00 a year. The page's code also carries a second plan layout, hidden by default, with Core at $9 and Business at $17, or $2,040.00 for 10 seats, beside a higher struck-through price. This page prices the visible default.
Pick it when forms, Gantt and dashboards matter and the team already works in ClickUp.
monday.com Standard: all five, ranked before its discount
monday.com's pricing page, with the seat selector at 10, shows Standard at $12 per seat per month billed annually and a total of $120 a month with $140 struck through. The hover breakdown lists the seat total, 2,000 AI credits valued at $20 and a special monthly discount of $20. This page ranks the full $140 total, $1,680.00 a year, because the lower total depends on the discount. Standard lists timeline and Gantt views, a calendar view and 250 automation actions a month. The plan-types help article lists Kanban and forms views from the Free plan and dashboards that draw on 5 boards on Standard.
The catch is the promotion: while the discount lasts, the shown $120 comes to $1,440.00 a year. The page says plans start from 3 users and asks for a quote above 40.
Pick it only if monday's board layout is the reason; at the full total it costs $361.20 more than Asana Starter for the same five features.
Wrike Business: forms cost $1,800.00 more than Team
Wrike's pricing page lists Team at $10 and Business at $25 per user per month, priced monthly and billed on an annual per-user basis, and says Business and above are annual only. Team, for 2 to 15 users, lists a shareable dashboard and interactive Gantt charts. The comparison table adds 50 automation actions per seat a month on Team, and request forms with 200 actions per seat from Business, for 5 to 200 users.
The catch is the step: 10 Team seats cost $1,200.00, so forms add $1,800.00 a year.
Pick it only if request forms are the deciding feature; it is the dearest of the five plans that list all five, at $1,681.20 above Asana Starter.
Basecamp Freelancer: the lowest total, one of the five
Basecamp's pricing page charges no per-user fees: Freelancer is $25 a month for up to 20 users and 3 active projects, Studio is $59 for unlimited users and 10 active projects, and Unlimited is $299 a month billed annually. Annual billing is marked as not included on Freelancer, Studio and Pro, so the Freelancer total is twelve monthly payments. Every plan lists to-dos and Card Tables, which cover list and board views.
The catch: the page names no Gantt or timeline view, forms, automation rules or dashboards. Studio, the first plan with unlimited users, costs $708.00 a year billed monthly.
Pick it for a team that needs only task lists and boards and wants the lowest total in the table.
ProofHub Essential: a flat price, three of the five
ProofHub's pricing page charges flat prices with no per-user fee: Essential is $45 a month billed annually ($50 billed monthly) for unlimited users, 40 projects and 15GB. Its plan table ticks boards, tasks, Gantt, calendar and forms for Essential but names no automation rules or dashboards, and workflows, reports and custom roles are Ultimate Control rows.
The catch is Ultimate Control's price: the card shows $89 a month billed annually, but the FAQ calls that a three-month offer followed by $135 a month ($150 billed monthly), or $1,620.00 a year at the regular rate.
Pick it for a team that wants forms and Gantt on a flat bill and can do without automation rules or dashboards.
Trello Premium: four of the five, no forms
Trello's pricing page lists Standard at $5 and Premium at $10 per user per month billed annually ($6 and $12.50 billed monthly). Timeline and Dashboard views are Premium and Enterprise only. Built-in automation sits on every plan, with 250 command runs a month on Free, 1,000 on Standard and unlimited from Premium. Standard would cost $600.00 for 10 seats but lacks the timeline and dashboards.
The catch: the plan table has no forms row on any plan.
Pick it when forms are optional and a $118.80 saving matters.
Freedcamp Enterprise: dashboards only on the top tier
Freedcamp's pricing page lists Pro at $1.49, Business at $7.49 and Enterprise at $16.99 per user per month billed annually ($2.49, $8.99 and $19.99 billed monthly). Its table shows Gantt Chart View from Business and Dashboards on Enterprise only, with no forms row and no automation rules row. The Tasks help page lists List and Kanban views with no plan restriction. Business would cost $898.80 for 10 seats without dashboards.
The catch: Enterprise is $720.00 above Asana Starter and lists three of the five features. The Free plan allows unlimited users but lists neither Gantt nor dashboards.
Skip it for this scenario. Business suits a team that wants a Gantt chart and nothing else.
Where the order flips
At 3 users, Asana Starter costs $395.64 a year, Zoho Projects Premium $144.00 and Smartsheet Pro $324.00, while ProofHub's flat $540.00 is $144.36 above Asana. Wrike Business needs at least 5 users, so 3 seats cannot buy it. At 50 users with member seats for all, Smartsheet Pro is gone because Pro stops at 10 members, and Business costs $11,400.00 a year against $6,594.00 for Asana Starter. Zoho Premium ($2,400.00) and Trello Premium ($6,000.00) stay below Asana, and monday.com asks for a quote. ProofHub stays flat and Basecamp Studio costs $708.00, since neither caps users.
How to choose
- Lowest bill, all five features: Zoho Projects Premium, if 2 workflow rules per layout are enough. Otherwise Smartsheet Pro, while the team stays at 10 members.
- Forms are optional: Trello Premium, with unlimited automation runs.
- Tasks and boards only: Basecamp Freelancer or ProofHub Essential, both flat.
- Proofing and request intake: our ranking of marketing project management tools covers monday.com, Wrike, ClickUp, Asana and ProofHub.

- A wider shortlist: our small business project management ranking profiles ClickUp, Trello, Asana, monday.com, Zoho Projects and Basecamp.

Common mistakes
- Pricing the plan below the one that lists the feature. ClickUp Unlimited is $840.00 for 10 seats but shows dashboards as a trial, while Business is $1,440.00. Wrike Team is $1,200.00 and Business $3,000.00.
- Comparing a yearly rate with a monthly one. Asana Starter billed monthly is $13.49 per user, which makes 10 seats $1,618.80, or $300.00 more than the yearly bill.
- Missing a seat cap. Smartsheet Pro ends at 10 members, and an 11th member moves the group to Business at $2,508.00 a year.
- Counting a promotion. ProofHub's $89 is a three-month price, and monday.com's lower total relies on a special monthly discount, so this page ranks the full $140.
- Treating a flat price as a full feature set. Basecamp's $300.00 lists one of the five features, and ProofHub's $540.00 lists three.
