In India, Brazil, and most of Southeast Asia, WhatsApp is how business gets done. Not email. Not Slack. WhatsApp. Interakt gives businesses access to the WhatsApp Business API so they can run marketing campaigns, handle support conversations, and sell products through the channel their customers actually use.

Interakt is owned by Haptik, which is owned by Jio (Reliance Industries). That corporate backing matters: it means the platform is well-funded and isn't going anywhere. They serve over 50,000 businesses and recently expanded beyond WhatsApp to include Instagram DMs.

What You Can Do With It

Bulk campaigns and notifications: Send marketing messages, order updates, and promotional broadcasts to opted-in contacts at scale. Segment by purchase history, location, or behavior. Track delivery and engagement rates.

Click-to-WhatsApp ads: Run Facebook/Instagram ads that open a WhatsApp conversation instead of a landing page. For markets where WhatsApp is the default communication tool, conversion rates on these can be 3-5x higher than traditional landing pages.

Team inbox: Multiple agents handling WhatsApp conversations with routing, assignment, and collaboration. No more one-phone-for-everything chaos.

Chatbot automation: No-code chatbot builder for handling FAQs, order status queries, and appointment scheduling without human involvement. AI agents available through Haptik's technology for more complex conversations.

E-commerce integrations: Shopify and WooCommerce connections for abandoned cart reminders, order confirmations, and product catalog sharing directly in WhatsApp.

Pricing

  • Starter: $12/month. Shared inbox, unlimited team members, Instagram inbox, chat automation, catalog building.
  • Growth: $49-55/month. Adds click-to-WhatsApp ad analytics, advanced campaign filters, conversation analytics.
  • Advanced: $63-69/month. Unlimited external app integrations, user segments, enhanced API limits.
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing.

Meta conversation fees are charged separately on top of these prices. Those fees vary by message type and recipient country. Budget for this as an additional cost.

Strengths

  • Purpose-built for WhatsApp commerce: Not a generic messaging tool with WhatsApp bolted on
  • Affordable entry point: $12/month to start is very accessible for SMBs in emerging markets
  • Haptik/Jio backing: Serious corporate parent means long-term stability and AI capabilities
  • 4.5/5 on G2 (63 reviews). Users consistently praise the ease of setup and campaign tools.
  • Instagram support: Added in 2025, covering the two channels that matter most in WhatsApp-dominant markets

Weaknesses

  • Meta channels only: WhatsApp and Instagram. No SMS, email, or Telegram. If you need omnichannel, you'll need additional tools.
  • Workflow automation is basic: Complex branching logic isn't well supported yet. Power users may feel constrained.
  • Trustpilot rating is rough: 2.3/5 (small sample), suggesting some customers have had bad experiences with support or billing.
  • Meta dependency: WhatsApp API pricing and policies can change without notice. That's a risk for any business built on a Meta platform.

Interakt vs. WATI vs. Gupshup

WATI is the most direct competitor. Similar WhatsApp API access, similar pricing. WATI has better workflow automation; Interakt has better click-to-WhatsApp ad integration and stronger backing.

Gupshup is broader: SMS, RCS, and messaging across multiple channels. If you need more than WhatsApp, Gupshup is the better fit.

Twilio offers WhatsApp as part of a developer-friendly omnichannel stack. Much more flexible but requires engineering resources to set up.

The Verdict

If your customers are on WhatsApp and you're selling products (especially D2C or e-commerce), Interakt is one of the best entry points into WhatsApp Business API. The $12/month starting price makes it accessible for businesses of almost any size. Just budget for the Meta conversation fees on top, and don't expect it to replace your email marketing or help desk tools.

How Interakt works

Interakt is a WhatsApp-first customer engagement platform built on the official WhatsApp Business API, with Instagram and RCS as secondary channels. It bundles four things a business would normally buy separately: broadcast marketing campaigns, a shared support inbox, a sales CRM with pipelines, and a no-code chatbot builder. It also handles WhatsApp commerce, syncing a product catalog from Shopify, WooCommerce or a plain Excel file and taking payments inside the chat. Interakt is a Meta Business Partner and says it serves 50,000+ businesses, with an obvious centre of gravity in the Indian D2C market.

Onboarding follows the standard business solution provider path, and none of it can be shortcut. You need a Facebook Business Manager account, Facebook business verification with legal documents, and a dedicated phone number that is not already tied to a WhatsApp account and can receive an SMS or voice call for verification. A verified WhatsApp Business account whose legal name matches your documents is required before you can message anyone outside the 24-hour customer-initiated window.

Once you are live, day-to-day work means building pre-approved message templates, assembling drag-and-drop chatbot flows (branching logic and API calls are Advanced plan only), setting auto-assignment rules for the shared inbox, and running CRM pipelines with auto-assigned lead owners. The integration list is deep for the niche: Shopify, WooCommerce, Dukaan, Unicommerce, Judge.me, the Zoho family (CRM, Bigin, Books, Billing), Freshdesk, Freshworks CRM, HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Sheets, TallyPrime, WebEngage, MoEngage, CleverTap, and payments through Razorpay, PayU, Stripe, WhatsApp Pay, Xendit and Duitku. Zapier, Make and Pabbly Connect cover whatever is left.

Where Interakt wins

  • Unlimited agent seats on every paid plan. Cost does not climb as you add support staff, which is the opposite of how per-seat helpdesks bill.
  • An ecommerce and Indian-market integration bench that is hard to match: Shopify, WooCommerce, Dukaan, Unicommerce, Razorpay, PayU and TallyPrime natively, plus Zapier, Make and Pabbly for the rest.
  • Real WhatsApp commerce, not just messaging. Catalog sync from Shopify, WooCommerce or Excel with native in-chat payments, available from the Growth plan up.
  • A free Starter tier that is genuinely usable for evaluation, with the shared inbox, one-time campaigns and simple automations included.
  • RCS fallback automatically re-routes delivery when a WhatsApp message does not land, which most WhatsApp providers do not offer at all.

Where it falls short

  • The free plan is Instagram-only, with no WhatsApp channel whatsoever, so the free tier does not let you test the product you are actually buying.
  • Platform fees are only half the bill. WhatsApp template charges apply per message on top (India rates around Rs 0.958 marketing, Rs 0.150 utility, Rs 0.128 authentication), and the Enterprise plan is explicitly the one described as having no markup charges.
  • AI agents cost extra: a separate USD 74.99 per month add-on on Growth and Advanced, which roughly doubles the price of a Growth plan.
  • Serious automation is paywalled to Advanced at USD 69 per month: branching chatbot flows, API calls from flows, chat auto-assignment and advanced webhooks all sit behind that tier.
  • Hard object limits per tier (Starter 15 custom fields and 15 tags, Growth 25 fields, 30 tags and 5 events, Advanced 30, 45 and 7), and the Sales CRM is billed separately at around Rs 2,499 per month for 5 agents plus Rs 499 per additional agent.
  • Setup depends entirely on Meta. Business Manager, business verification with legal documents, a clean dedicated number and template approvals are all gates Interakt cannot open for you.

Who should use Interakt

Interakt suits D2C and ecommerce brands, especially in India and Southeast Asia, that already sell and support over WhatsApp and want campaigns, inbox, CRM and product catalog on one bill with unlimited seats. If your support team is growing and your storefront runs on Shopify or WooCommerce, the seat model and the native commerce connectors are the strongest arguments here.

Skip it if WhatsApp is not your primary channel, since everything else is secondary by design. Skip it if you need email or voice support, which the platform does not cover. And think carefully if you want AI automation without a separate USD 75 per month line item on top of your plan, or if you cannot commit to the Advanced tier that unlocks branching flows and auto-assignment.
