How to type with your voice on a Mac
Apple's dictation is free and already on the machine. You look for something else when the accuracy drops in a noisy room, when you want a shortcut that dumps text into any app, or when you dictate for an hour and the system tool starts to wander.

The short answer
- Try Apple dictation for a week (Fn Fn, or the mic in a text field). If it keeps up, stop shopping.
- If you live in Slack, email, and a code editor and you want one hotkey, try superwhisper.
- If you bounce between Mac and other devices, look at Wispr Flow.
- If the problem is call noise, that is Krisp, not a dictation app.
How to set it up
Install the app. Grant microphone access. Pick a shortcut you will actually remember. Dictate a paragraph into Notes, then into the app you hate typing in. If the first five minutes feel worse than the keyboard, the tool is not the issue. You are still thinking in keystrokes.
Privacy: local vs cloud depends on the plan. Read the review for the current claim. Do not dictate patient names or unpublished financials into a cloud box you have not checked.
