Is CapCut Free in 2026? Free Plan Limits and the Cheapest CapCut Pro Price

Trusted by780,000+ Techpresso subscribers·Editorial policy·How we make money

Yes, CapCut has a free plan at $0, and its pricing page lists only free templates and basic editing for it. CapCut's pricing page, checked on October 10, 2026, lists Pro at $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year. The yearly plan works out to about $15 a month, which makes it the cheapest way to keep Pro. Free works for short, template-based edits. It falls short once you need unrestricted 4K, premium templates or Pro-only assets in a project.

Dupple data: our US Ahrefs pull on October 10, 2026 puts "is capcut free" at 8,300 searches a month and "capcut pricing" at 40,000. Both queries sit close to the same two questions: what the free plan includes, and what Pro costs. This page answers both from CapCut's own pages.

Free vs Pro: the limits that matter

Every row below comes from CapCut's pricing page or its help center. Where neither gives a figure, the table says "not published" rather than borrowing a number from another site.

Free vs Pro: the limits that matter: Is CapCut Free in 2026? Free Plan Limits and the Cheapest CapCut Pro Price. Last updated October 2026.
Limit Free Pro
Price $0 $19.99/mo or $179.99/yr
Templates Free templates All premium templates
Watermark on exports Not added by the app itself. Most templates end with a CapCut logo clip, which you can delete No watermark (the help center lists "no watermarks" as a Pro benefit)
Resolution and frame rate Not published on the pricing page. On the web editor, 4K exports may carry watermarks or bitrate limits 4K/60fps export
Pro-only assets in a project Export needs a Pro subscription Export without restrictions
AI credits Not published 1,200 a month
Cloud storage Not published 1 TB
Export length Not published Not published

The gaps in the Free column matter most. CapCut's pricing page lists only two things under Free, free templates and basic editing tools. Storage, AI credits and an export ceiling are missing from that list, so a free account should not be planned around any of them.

What the free plan includes

The free plan is real and usable. It gives you free templates and basic editing with no subscription. For a creator who posts a few short clips a week from templates, that can be enough. For a broader view of free generators as well as editors, see the best free AI video generators. Two details decide whether the output looks clean: the template's outro clip and any Pro-only asset in the project.

CapCut's help center says the app does not add a watermark to exports on its own. The usual source is the template: most templates end with a short clip carrying the CapCut logo. Scroll to the end of the timeline and delete that clip before you export. The same help center says some advanced templates, effects and stock elements carry a watermark, so a clean-looking preview does not guarantee a clean export.

That second point is where free users get caught. Deleting the outro fixes the template clip, but not a Pro-only element sitting elsewhere in the project. CapCut's help says removing the watermark from a project that uses Pro materials requires Pro, at any resolution. If your project uses one of those elements, the free plan will not give you a watermark-free file.

Where the free plan runs out

The limits show up at export, not while you edit. CapCut's help says exporting a project with Pro-only assets requires a Pro subscription. When the export scan finds one, the app shows a prompt to start a free trial or subscribe.

Resolution is the hardest number to pin down. The pricing page gives no export resolution for Free. CapCut's help article on 2K and 4K export says that on the web editor, free accounts may face watermarks or bitrate limits on 4K exports, while Pro subscribers get unrestricted 4K. Several third-party guides state that the free plan tops out at 1080p. CapCut's pages do not confirm that cap, so do not plan a 4K deliverable around the free plan without exporting a test from your own project first. If you already have a low-resolution export to enlarge, the best AI video upscalers covers the tools built for that job.

Frame rate follows the same pattern. The Pro benefits include 60fps export, and the free frame-rate ceiling is not published.

Storage and AI credits matter if you keep projects in the cloud or use AI generation. Pro includes 1 TB of cloud storage and 1,200 AI credits each month. The best AI tools for video editing compares what the other editors give you. The pricing page lists no storage or credit allowance for Free, so treat both as unknown rather than as zero or as unlimited.

How much CapCut Pro costs

CapCut's pricing page, checked on October 10, 2026, shows Pro in USD, billed monthly or yearly. The page says Pro renews automatically and can be canceled at any time. The monthly price fits a single short project. From the tenth month of use, the yearly plan is the better deal, as the math below shows.

How much CapCut Pro costs: Is CapCut Free in 2026? Free Plan Limits and the Cheapest CapCut Pro Price. Last updated October 2026.
Scenario Plan Cost
One month of editing Pro monthly $19.99
Nine months Pro monthly $179.91
Twelve months Pro yearly $179.99
Twelve months Pro monthly $239.88
Twelve months Ultra yearly $900
Twelve months Free $0, with the limits above

Billed monthly, a full year of Pro costs $239.88. Billed yearly, the same year costs less and saves $59.89, or 25 percent. Nine monthly payments total $179.91, eight cents less than the annual plan, so monthly billing only wins for nine months or less. From the tenth month the yearly plan is cheaper, and the gap widens with every month after that.

Ultra costs $79 a month or $900 a year. It adds exclusive AI features and 8,645 monthly AI credits, against 1,200 on Pro. Ultra only makes sense if your AI generation regularly runs past what Pro's credits cover. Teams starts at $12.49 per seat a month on a two-seat plan, and on the yearly plan that works out to $107.50 per seat a year. Every seat gets Pro features, a brand kit and the 1 TB of storage.

The US App Store listing, checked the same day, names different subscriptions. It shows a Standard Monthly Subscription at $9.99 and a Pro monthly subscription at the same price as on the web, plus a yearly subscription at $89.99 with no tier name beside it. The web pricing page lists no Standard plan. If you buy on an iPhone or an Android phone, the store handles billing, and CapCut says you cannot switch plans or update payment methods inside the app. Check the price in the store at checkout before you subscribe.

Is there a free way to get Pro?

CapCut documents two routes, and neither is permanent. The first is its free trial. The export prompt offers one, and CapCut's trial help article describes a 7-day free membership. Check the subscribe screen for the current length before you start.

The second is an invite program. The same help article says each user can invite up to 10 friends, and ten invited friends earn 70 days of Pro (10 times 7). An invitee must be new to CapCut: they must never have installed it on that computer, and their account must never have received the reward. The article is dated March 25, 2026, so confirm the program still runs before you count on it.

Who should stay on free

Stay on the free plan if your edits are short, template-based and finished without 4K or AI generation. Delete the template outro before every export, and preview the last few seconds of the timeline. If you find the free templates too thin, the CapCut alternatives cover the other editors, and the best free video editing software lists the free ones. If you want a browser editor with AI tools, VEED alternatives covers the options.

Pick Pro monthly if one project needs premium templates or Pro-only effects this month and you do not expect to keep going. Pick Pro yearly if you will keep editing for ten months or more. If your deliverable has to be 4K, test an export on the free plan first, and expect to pay for Pro if the test shows a watermark or a bitrate cap.

Pick Ultra only if your AI generation regularly outruns Pro's monthly credits. Pick Teams when more than one person needs the same Pro features. If captions are the main job, the best AI subtitle generators compares dedicated tools. For a desktop timeline, DaVinci Resolve vs Premiere Pro is the comparison to read next.

Common mistakes

Assuming a clean preview means a clean export. A preview can hide an outro clip or a Pro-only asset. The export scan runs when you click Export, so run a test export well before a deadline.

Paying monthly for a full year. Twelve monthly payments cost $59.89 more than the yearly plan. That gap is the price of billing monthly for a full year.

Treating a third-party resolution cap as CapCut's rule. Several guides say the free plan stops at 1080p. CapCut's pages do not confirm it, so test the export on your own project before you rely on the number either way.

Forgetting that Pro renews. The pricing page says Pro renews automatically. Set a reminder for the day before a trial or a first billing period ends, or the first charge will arrive when you are not expecting it.

Buying on the wrong storefront. The App Store listing shows a Standard tier and a different set of subscriptions from the web pricing page. Read the price the store shows at checkout, not the one you saw on a comparison page.

How we checked this

We read CapCut's pricing page, its help articles on watermarks, 2K and 4K export, the Pro export prompt, and the free trial, and the US App Store listing, all on October 10, 2026. Prices are in USD as those pages show them. We did not test the app. The search volumes come from our own US Ahrefs pull on the same day.

Does CapCut add a watermark to free exports?

Not on its own, according to CapCut's help center. Most templates end with a short CapCut-logo clip that you can delete before export. Some advanced templates, effects and stock elements carry a watermark, and removing it from a project that uses Pro materials requires Pro.

What is the highest export resolution on the free plan?

CapCut's pricing page does not say. Its help article on 2K and 4K export says free accounts on the web editor may face watermarks or bitrate limits on 4K exports. Third-party guides claim a 1080p cap, and CapCut's pages do not confirm it.

Bottom line

CapCut's free plan is genuinely free, but it is a template plan. Use it for short edits you can finish from free templates with the outro clip deleted. Pay for Pro when you need 4K/60fps export without restrictions, Pro-only assets, premium templates or the 1,200 monthly AI credits. For a year of use, the yearly plan is the cheapest route, and monthly billing costs $59.89 more over twelve months.
