Key facts6 tools compared: MagicSchool AI, Khanmigo, Diffit, Curipod, SchoolAI, Brisk Teaching
  • Updated: October 16, 2026
  • Prices as of: October 2026
  • 6 tools compared: MagicSchool AI, Khanmigo, Diffit, Curipod, SchoolAI, Brisk Teaching
  • MagicSchool AI (best for: Lesson plans, worksheets and quizzes): Plus: $8.33/user/mo billed annually
  • Khanmigo (best for: Standards-aligned lesson planning): None for teachers (the learner plan is separate)
  • Diffit (best for: One text at several reading levels): Individual teacher: $14.99/mo
  • Curipod (best for: Weekly writing practice): School and district: quote only

Short answer: MagicSchool's free plan has the most teacher tools of any free plan we checked, at 80+, with no generation limit stated. Khanmigo's teacher sign-up is free, and its student tutoring is a paid learner plan. If you want a number you can count on, SchoolAI's free trial gives five Space launches a year, and Curipod's free plan gives weekly writing sessions. The cheapest paid teacher plan we found is MagicSchool Plus at $8.33 a month billed annually.

Free plans for teachers count different things. One vendor caps launches, another caps characters in each student response, a third limits the age of the content you can open, and three state no usage limit at all. A comparison that stops at the word "free" hides all of that. This page puts six tools on the same columns, using only what each vendor's own pricing page said on 12 October 2026.

Dupple data: Of the six teacher tools we read on 12 October 2026, three put a usage limit on their free plan: SchoolAI's launch cap, Diffit's content window and Curipod's response length. The other three, MagicSchool, Khanmigo and Brisk, state no usage limit on their pricing pages.

How we checked

We read each vendor's public pricing page on 12 October 2026 and recorded the plan names, the prices, the billing terms and any usage number printed there. Prices are in US dollars as shown on each vendor's US page. Where a vendor publishes no list price, we say so rather than estimate one. We did not open accounts on these tools, so a limit that appears only inside the app is not in this table. Each of the six has a free teacher plan or a free trial, and each is judged only on its own pricing page.

1

MagicSchool: the widest free toolbox

MagicSchool's Forever Free plan gives an individual teacher more than 80 teacher tools, the Raina chatbot, quizzes and class writing feedback, with basic support. The lesson plan generator and the worksheet generator are among the teacher tools the page lists. No other free plan here names a bigger toolbox.

The pricing page is also clear about what stays behind the paywall: unlimited generations, unlimited output history, unlimited AI output editing and the student tools all sit on Plus. What the page does not give is a number for free generations, so a teacher cannot tell from the pricing page how many lesson plans fit into a month on the free plan.

Who it's best for: Classroom teachers who want lesson plans, worksheets and quizzes from one place without a budget request.

Paid teacher price: Plus is $8.33 per user a month billed annually, which comes to $99.96 a year, or $12.99 a month billed monthly. Paying monthly for a full year costs $155.88, so the annual plan saves $55.92. The annual price is per user, so four teachers on the annual plan pay $399.84 a year.

The catch: The toolbox is wide, but the free plan gives no generation number, so the tool list is the only concrete allowance you can count on. Read the Plus list before you assume the free plan covers a whole school term.

2

Khanmigo: free for teachers, paid for students

The teacher sign-up on Khanmigo's pricing page is labelled free. The teacher side covers standards-aligned lesson planning tied to Khan Academy's content library, an on-demand summary of student work, learning objectives, rubrics and exit tickets, and access to your chat history. The page names no cap for any of it.

Who it's best for: Teachers who already work from Khan Academy content and want planning help without a budget request.

Paid price: The paid plans are for learners and families: $4 a month or $44 a year, with sales tax not included. A student who wants a personal tutor pays that price, and the teacher account stays free. Districts get a separate quote that includes rostering and single sign-on.

The catch: A free teacher account does not give students a free tutor. Plan the student side as its own purchase.

3

Diffit: one job, with a limited window on free

Diffit's Basic plan is free, and it does the one job the product is built for: taking a text and rewriting it at other reading levels. You can download to PDF, print, share with colleagues, and edit or adapt the results. The number to check is the window. Basic gives access to content made in the last 90 days, so older resources sit outside the free plan.

Who it's best for: Teachers with a class spread across several reading levels who need the same text rewritten for each level.

Paid price: An individual teacher subscription is $14.99 a month billed monthly, or $149.99 a year billed annually. Twelve monthly payments come to $179.88, so the annual plan saves $29.89. Schools buy a flat-rate annual plan tiered by enrollment, priced on request.

The catch: Diffit's school page says "No student logins, no student AI." Teachers make the materials, and students use what is printed or shared rather than the tool itself.

4

Curipod: writing practice with a character cap

Curipod's free plan costs $0 a month for every teacher. It includes unlimited student writers, standards alignment and weekly writing sessions that renew every week. The focus is writing: English and science claim-and-evidence practice, where students write, get feedback in seconds and revise. The free plan caps each written response at 1,000 characters.

The free plan leaves out PDF downloads, growth reports, shared lesson folders and single sign-on. Those sit on the School and District plan, which is priced on request. Curipod also says that no AI chatbots are available to students and that teachers control all AI output before students see it. Those are the terms to check if you are weighing a tool that students log into.

Who it's best for: Teachers who want every student to write a short constructed response each week.

Paid price: School and district plans are custom priced. The page shows no plan that a single teacher can buy alone.

5

SchoolAI: five launches a year on the free trial

SchoolAI labels its free tier a Free Trial, which is worth knowing before you build a unit around it. The trial includes five free trial Spaces, access to its PowerUps, tools and assistants to support teacher effectiveness, and a yearly cap on Space launches. Students work inside a Space that the teacher launches.

Count the launches before you commit. Each launch sends a Space to a class, so the cap decides how many classes get one on the free trial. Pro adds unlimited Space launches and sessions, SIS rostering and admin alert routing. The page shows no price for Pro or Scale, only a "Get started" button.

Who it's best for: A teacher who wants to run a few guided AI lessons a year and show the results before asking the school for budget.

Privacy: The pricing page says the platform is FERPA, COPPA and SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and 1EdTech certified.

6

Brisk Teaching: free inside Docs and Slides

Brisk's free plan costs $0 for teachers and installs as a Chrome or Edge extension. It works inside Google Docs, Slides, YouTube and your learning management system, so there is no new tab to manage. The free plan states no usage number. The Premium and Intelligence plans for schools and districts are priced on request.

Who it's best for: Teachers whose work already lives in Google Docs and Slides and who want feedback and materials without moving to another platform.

The catch: The free plan is for individual teachers. A school that wants standards alignment, admin controls and district usage visibility has to speak with Brisk before it sees a price.

How to choose

  • You want the most tools for nothing: Start with MagicSchool's free plan. It is the only free plan here that publishes a tool count.
  • A student needs a tutor: Khanmigo's teacher side is free. The student plan is a separate, paid purchase.
  • One text has to reach several reading levels: Diffit's Basic plan, with its content window in mind.
  • Your class writes every week in ELA or science: Curipod's free plan, planned around its response cap.
  • You want a few guided AI lessons a year: SchoolAI's free trial, counting the launch cap.
  • Your work lives in Docs and Slides: Brisk's free extension has the least friction, though its limits are not stated.

Two free plans cover most of a teacher's week. MagicSchool handles planning and worksheets, and Diffit handles reading levels. Neither costs anything until you choose a paid plan, and the paid plans are listed in the tables above.

Common mistakes

  1. Reading "free" as unlimited. Unlimited generations are a Plus feature on MagicSchool, not a free one. The pricing page gives no limit for the free plan, so test it on a real stretch of work before you rely on it.
  2. Buying a school license when one teacher needs one seat. Diffit's school plan is flat-rate and tiered by enrollment. The individual plan is $149.99 a year.
  3. Treating a trial as a plan. SchoolAI calls its free tier a Free Trial, and the yearly launch cap is the limit on that tier. The page shows no price for Pro or Scale.
  4. Expecting PDFs from Curipod's free plan. PDF download is not included on the free plan.
  5. Assuming students get free access through a teacher account. Khanmigo's learner plan is paid. Diffit states that students do not log in and do not use its AI.
  6. Budgeting from a quote. Curipod's school and district plans, Brisk's Premium and Intelligence plans, Diffit's school plans and SchoolAI's Pro and Scale plans have no list price on their pages. Get a written quote before you plan a budget around them.

FAQ

Is MagicSchool free for teachers?

Yes. The Forever Free plan costs $0 and includes 80+ teacher tools, the Raina chatbot, quizzes and class writing feedback. The pricing page does not state a generation limit for the free plan. Plus costs $8.33 per user a month billed annually ($99.96 a year), or $12.99 a month billed monthly.

Is Khanmigo free for teachers?

Yes. The teacher sign-up is free and includes standards-aligned lesson planning, on-demand summaries of student work, learning objectives, rubrics, exit tickets and chat history. Learners and families pay $4 a month or $44 a year, with sales tax not included.

What is the cheapest paid plan for one teacher?

MagicSchool Plus, at $99.96 a year when billed annually. Diffit's individual plan is $149.99 a year, billed annually. Curipod, Brisk and SchoolAI's Pro and Scale plans have no price that a single teacher can buy from their pricing pages.

Which free plans state a limit?

Three do, as of 12 October 2026: SchoolAI's five Space launches a year on its free trial, Diffit's access to content made in the last 90 days, and Curipod's 1,000-character student responses. MagicSchool, Khanmigo and Brisk state no usage limit on their pricing pages, although MagicSchool does publish a tool count.

Can students use these tools for free?

Partly. On Curipod's free plan, students write, with unlimited student writers and a cap on each response. On SchoolAI, students join Spaces within the free launch limit. Khanmigo's student tutoring is a paid plan, and Diffit's school page says "No student logins, no student AI."

Are these tools safe for student data?

Pricing pages make compliance claims, and a pricing page is not a data agreement. SchoolAI says it is FERPA, COPPA and SOC 2 Type 2 compliant. Diffit says it is FERPA and COPPA compliant. Curipod lists FERPA, COPPA, SOPPA and GDPR. Before you enter student names or records, ask your district for its data terms.

Which should a teacher try first?

Start with MagicSchool's free plan for planning and lesson materials. If reading level is your main problem, add Diffit's Basic plan and check that its content window covers the texts you need.

Bottom line

For most teachers, MagicSchool's Forever Free plan is the place to start: its teacher toolbox at $0, with a clear annual price of $99.96 if you want unlimited generations. Khanmigo is free for teachers, and a student who needs a tutor pays for the learner plan. Diffit's free plan fits reading-level work, as long as its content window covers the texts you need. Three of the six tools publish no usage limit on their free plan, so check each pricing page again before you budget.
