Dupple original data

Ecommerce statistics 2026

Most ecommerce statistics pages recycle the same sales forecast. This one leads with data only Dupple can publish. Our news radar indexes roughly one million tech articles a year, and across the 645,653 headlines it catalogued between July 2025 and August 2026, Amazon was our most-covered company outside the AI labs, named in 10,400 headlines, about 1 of every 62, while Shopify coverage climbed to an all-time monthly high as AI shopping agents arrived. Our first-party numbers come first, then a tightly sourced set of industry figures, each deep-linked to the page it came from. tech-news headlines named Amazon in the past year (about 1 of every 62)

Commerce is inseparable from the tech story. Amazon appears in 161.1 of every 10,000 headlines we index, our most-covered company outside the AI labs. The fresher signal is Shopify, whose share of coverage rose from 2.6 to an all-time monthly high of 7.4 per 10,000 as agentic checkout and AI shopping moved from demo to product.

Shopify coverage climbed to a record

We index the full tech-news firehose to build our newsletters. The chart shows how many headlines out of every 10,000 we indexed named Shopify, by quarter. Coverage nearly doubled across the year and then spiked in the latest month as AI shopping agents and agentic checkout went from demo to shipping product.

Complete calendar quarters only. The most recent full month, August 2026, reached an all-time high of 7.4 mentions per 10,000 headlines.

We report share of coverage rather than raw counts because our index scaled to full volume in mid-2025; comparisons are limited to the mature window (July 2025 onward).

The commerce names in the headlines

Ranking the commerce topics in our index, Amazon towers over everything, the storefront platforms are the growth story, and the generic terms "ecommerce" and "online shopping" barely register on their own, because the conversation now runs through named platforms.

The global picture

Zoom out and the numbers get much larger. Online retail is a multi-trillion-dollar market and a fifth of all retail worldwide.

Conversion and where sales leak

Traffic is not the hard part; checkout is. Most carts never convert, and design is a big reason why.

AI moves into the funnel, and the platforms that win

The Shopify surge we measured is part of a bigger shift: AI is now steering shoppers, and a few platforms concentrate the volume. Compare storefronts in our Shopify review.

How does Dupple measure these ecommerce statistics?

Our proprietary figures come from Dupple's news radar, which indexes roughly a million tech articles a year. We count how often a company or topic appears in headlines and express it as a share of all coverage, so the numbers are not distorted by the total volume we index. Every borrowed figure names a checkable source and links to the exact page it came from.

Method and sources

How this data was measured

The proprietary figures on this page come from Dupple's news radar, the index that powers our newsletters, which ingests roughly one million tech articles a year. To measure a topic we count headlines that contain the term (case-insensitive) and divide by all headlines indexed in the same period, giving a share of coverage in mentions per 10,000 headlines. We report share rather than raw counts, and we limit comparisons to the mature window from July 2025 onward, because our index scaled to full volume in mid-2025 and earlier months are not comparable. Amazon coverage spans retail, cloud, and devices, so we treat it as a ceiling on retail attention, not a pure-play figure. Every external statistic names its source inline and links to the exact page or report that carries the figure; we drop any figure we cannot verify on the source page. This report was published on September 17, 2026, carries a visible last-updated date, and will be refreshed as the data changes. Byline: Louis Corneloup, Founder at Dupple.
