Papermark Review 2026

Papermark is an open-source way to share documents and build data rooms with tracking built in.

Last updated: September 2026

Editorial review. We tested Papermark hands-on for this writeup. Pricing, feature claims, and integrations were verified against the vendor site as of September 2026. We have no paid relationship influencing the score.

What Papermark Actually Is

Papermark is an open-source way to share documents and build data rooms with tracking built in. You upload a file, share a link instead of an attachment, and then see exactly who opened it, which pages they read, and how long they spent. It is the open-source answer to DocSend, and it adds the access controls that make sharing sensitive material safe.

Because it is open source, you can self-host it for full control over where your documents live, or use the hosted version and skip the setup.

The Feature That Sets It Apart: Page-by-Page Analytics

Sending a PDF as an attachment tells you nothing. A Papermark link tells you who viewed it, when, and crucially which pages held their attention and where they dropped off. For a fundraising deck or a sales proposal, knowing that a prospect reread the pricing page twice is the kind of signal that changes your next move.

What Else It Does

Access Controls

You can require email verification, set a password, add an expiration date, and allow or block specific addresses, so a link that leaks does not become an open door. NDAs and view agreements can gate access before the document opens.

Data Rooms

For due diligence or a fundraise, you can group many documents into a branded virtual data room with folder structure and per-file permissions, rather than juggling one-off links.

Custom Domains and Branding

Links can live on your own domain with your branding, so what a client sees looks like you rather than a generic sharing service.

Pricing

Papermark has a free tier for basic sharing and tracking, with paid plans that add data rooms, custom domains, advanced access controls, and team features. Self-hosting is available if you want to keep everything on your own infrastructure. New users who sign up through the link on this page get 20% off for the first three months.

Who It Is For

Papermark suits founders raising money, sales teams sending proposals, and anyone who shares documents that deserve tracking and access control. If you only ever email the occasional PDF, an attachment is fine. If you want to know how your deck actually lands and who is really engaged, this is the tool for it.

Is Papermark a good DocSend alternative?

Yes. It covers the core DocSend use cases, tracked document links, page-by-page analytics, and data rooms, and adds an open-source codebase and self-hosting.

Can I see who viewed my document?

Yes. Papermark shows who opened the link, when, how long they spent, and which pages they read, down to where they stopped.

Can I self-host Papermark?

Yes. It is open source, so you can run it on your own infrastructure. A hosted version is available if you prefer not to manage it.
