Updated November 3, 2026: prices re-checked on each vendor's US store or pricing page. Compared from vendor specs and pricing pages, not tested hands-on.

Dupple card: aosu SolarCam P1 SE and Botslab W510 photos, eufyCam C35 2-Cam Kit at $199.99, Reolink Argus 4 Pro, and Wyze Cam v4 from $44.98.
Dupple card: the top five picks in ranking order, US prices read November 3, 2026.

As of November 2026, the best Ring alternatives that record without a monthly plan are the aosu SolarCam System P1 SE 2-camera kit and the eufyCam C35 2-camera kit, both at $199.99. Both are battery or solar, and neither vendor's page asks for a subscription to store footage. Ring's Outdoor Cam 2K starts at $49.99 until November 30, 2026 (list $99.99) and its 1080p Outdoor Cam at $79.99, but recordings need a Ring Protect plan.

Why Ring cameras need a plan, and what the plan costs

Ring's own help article says the same thing the plan page implies. Without a subscription you can view live video and respond to alerts as they happen, but a subscription is required to review recorded video. Ring's plan page lists three tiers, all billed per month or per year:

  • Ring Solo: $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year, for one device, with up to 180 days of video playback.
  • Ring Multi: $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, covering all devices at one location.
  • Ring Pro: $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year, adding video descriptions, familiar faces (beta) and 24/7 professional monitoring.

Ring offers a free 30-day trial when you set up a device. Those prices are the baseline for everything below: if a competitor records without any plan, the difference is the Ring plan you no longer pay.

Dupple spec card for Ring Outdoor Cam (battery): from $79.99, recordings need a Ring plan, 1080p HD video, battery powered.
Dupple spec card

Ring Outdoor Cam (battery), from $79.99, on Ring's US page, read November 3, 2026. The page lists 1080p HD video and battery power. Its recordings need the Solo plan at $49.99 a year, and Ring's page does not say which features run without one beyond live view and alerts.

How the order was set

The table ranks the alternatives on these criteria, in this order: 1. footage stored locally without a plan; 2. battery or solar power ahead of plug-in; 3. hardware cost per camera; ties go to what the kit includes (aosu: 32 GB and solar panels in the box). aosu and eufy tie at $100 a camera, and the tie goes to aosu. On the page's own numbers that gives aosu, eufy, Botslab, Reolink, then the plug-in Wyze. The Tapo camera is listed last because we could not read its price.

Ring alternatives in ranking order: US price, power and storage without a plan (November 3, 2026). Plan prices are in the cost section.

1. aosu SolarCam System P1 SE, the no-fee solar kit

The aosu SolarCam System P1 SE kit: four solar cameras in white with a round home base unit.
Image: aosu (four-camera kit shown; the $199.99 kit has two cameras)

$199.99 for the 2-camera kit, or $259.99 for four cameras, on aosu's US store read November 3, 2026. That is $100 a camera, the same per camera as the Eufy kit, and its base station has 32 GB built in, per its page. aosu's struck-through figure is an estimated value, not a past price.

  • The page lists 2K FHD color night vision, multi-camera sync and tracking, and solar power for continuous use.
  • Its cloud plan is optional: the Basic plan is $4.99 a month, and a 30-day free trial applies to a new subscription.

Cons: the base station has 32 GB built in, 60 days of loop recording. aosu's cloud FAQ says its 24/7 monitoring does not record continuously, so event clips are what you get, not a full day. The yearly cloud price is not printed on the page.

Best for: a two-camera home that wants no monthly fee and does not need 24/7 recording.

2. eufyCam C35 2-camera kit, no fee if you buy the card

Dupple spec card for eufyCam C35 2-Cam Kit: $199.99, no monthly fee for microSD, IP67, battery; solar panel supported, microSD up to 256 GB not included.
Dupple spec card

$199.99 for the 2-camera kit, or $349.99 for four cameras, on eufy's US product page, read November 3, 2026. The page rates the C35 IP67 and battery powered, with external solar supported but no panel in the kit, and says local microSD storage carries no monthly fee.

  • microSD storage is up to 256 GB, but the page says the card is not included, so a card may be an extra cost. eufy's FAQ also lists a HomeBase Mini hub with 8 GB eMMC; the page does not itemize whether the kit includes it.
  • Cloud is optional: Basic is $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year for one device, and Plus is $13.99 a month or $139.99 a year for all devices.

Cons: the FAQ says the C35 does not support 24/7 recording. A two-camera home needs Plus if it wants cloud, because Basic covers one device.

Best for: buyers who already own a microSD card and want no cloud bill.

Eufy vs Ring: no plan against a plan

Both brands sell battery cameras, and both are searched together. The difference is the bill. A Ring Outdoor Cam at $79.99 needs the Solo plan to record, which is $49.99 a year for one device. An eufyCam C35 kit for two cameras records to a microSD card with no fee, and the cloud option is there if you want it. For one camera, Ring's hardware is cheaper; for two cameras that record without a plan, Eufy costs less over two years than Ring's Multi plan on top of the hardware.

Eufy vs Ring: Ring one camera, eufy kit two cameras, 24 months (computed from vendor prices, November 3, 2026)
Setup Hardware Plan, 24 months (annual) Total
Ring Outdoor Cam with Solo $79.99 $99.98 $179.97
eufyCam C35 kit, two cameras, Plus $199.99 $279.98 $479.97
eufyCam C35 kit, no cloud plan $199.99 $0 (microSD card extra) $199.99 (microSD card not priced)

3. Botslab W510 4K 2-camera system, the 4K pick

The Botslab W510 4K system: two battery cameras with solar panels and a silver base station.
Image: Botslab

$320.99 pre-order price, ships in about 2 months (Botslab page, Nov 3, 2026) for the base station with two cameras. That is $160.50 a camera, cheaper per camera than the Reolink below, and $121 more than the aosu kit for the same two cameras.

  • The page lists 4K resolution, a 5 W solar panel attached or detached, and storage from 32 GB to 16 TB.
  • The product title and page say "No Monthly Fee", and the page does not describe a monthly plan for the local storage.

Cons: it is a pre-order that ships in about 2 months, and it is the most expensive two-camera kit in the table. The page gives no cloud price, so we cannot say what remote cloud recording costs. Botslab's W313 single camera has one year of cloud free, and the price after that is not printed in the pages we read.

Best for: buyers who want 4K and local storage and will pay $121 more than the aosu kit for it.

Dupple spec card for Reolink Argus 4 Pro: $179.99, list $214.99 (Nov 3, 2026), 4K 180 degree panorama, solar and battery power, local SD card storage.
Dupple spec card

$179.99, list $214.99 (Nov 3, 2026) for one camera on Reolink's US product page. The page describes a 4K 180 degree panorama camera with solar and battery power, and local SD card storage.

  • The page says the camera supports local SD card storage, and lists Reolink Cloud as available in selected countries.
  • At $179.99 for one camera, it has the highest hardware price per camera of the priced products in the table.

Cons: two cameras bought one at a time cost $359.98, which is $160 more than the aosu kit; Reolink's own 2-camera bundle with two solar panels is $350.99 (read November 3, 2026), still $151 more. Reolink's cloud plan prices were not readable on its US pages today, so the cloud cost is not in the cost table. The link opens Amazon; the price on Amazon may differ.

Best for: a single camera where local SD storage is enough and the 4K picture matters.

5. Wyze Cam v4, the lowest price, with a cable

Dupple spec card for Wyze Cam v4: from $44.98, microSD up to 256 GB, Cam Plus $2.99 a month per camera, IP65 weather resistant.
Dupple spec card

From $44.98, on Wyze's US product page, read November 3, 2026. That is the lowest hardware price in the table, and the page says local storage needs a microSD card of up to 256 GB, with cloud available on a subscription plan.

  • Cam Plus is $2.99 a month per camera, with a 30-day free trial and 14-day cloud video recordings, as printed on Wyze's Cam Plus page.
  • Cam Unlimited is $9.99 a month or $99 a year for unlimited cameras, which is the plan a four-camera home would compare against.

Cons: the page sells an outdoor power adapter as an accessory, so this is a mains-powered camera, not a battery camera. The microSD card is required for local storage and is not priced here. The Cam Plus annual price is not printed on the page.

Best for: a cheap indoor or porch camera where a power outlet is nearby.

Dupple spec card for TP-Link Tapo C320WS: see the official store, microSD card bought separately, Ethernet or Wi-Fi, Tapo Care cloud from $3.49 a month.
Dupple spec card

The Tapo C320WS comes last because its price is not on the product page we could read. We did not guess one. The page lists an Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection, a microSD card bought separately, and 30-day cloud clip history through Tapo Care.

Tapo Care is priced on Tapo's US plan page, read November 3, 2026: Cloud, for up to 2 devices, is $3.49 a month or $34.99 a year with 30 days of storage. Cloud Advanced, for unlimited devices, is $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year with 180 days.

Best for: wired installs that already run Ethernet, once the price is confirmed on the store.

Which plan does each brand need? Cost of ownership

Dupple data: computed from vendor prices on Nov 3, 2026. The table multiplies each plan by 12 and 24 months and shows the monthly and the annual price, because they are not the same: an annual plan is not 12 times the monthly price.

Subscription plans from each vendor's own page, 12 and 24 months, monthly against annual billing (November 3, 2026)
Plan Covers 12 months, monthly / annual 24 months, monthly / annual
Ring Solo 1 device $59.88 / $49.99 $119.76 / $99.98
Ring Multi All devices at one location $119.88 / $99.99 $239.76 / $199.98
Eufy Basic 1 device $47.88 / $39.99 $95.76 / $79.98
Eufy Plus All devices $167.88 / $139.99 $335.76 / $279.98
aosu Basic Not stated on the page $59.88 / annual not printed $119.76 / annual not printed
Wyze Cam Plus Per camera $35.88 / annual not printed $71.76 / annual not printed
Wyze Cam Unlimited Unlimited cameras $119.88 / $99.00 $239.76 / $198.00
Tapo Care Cloud Up to 2 devices $41.88 / $34.99 $83.76 / $69.98
Tapo Care Cloud Advanced Unlimited devices $143.88 / $119.99 $287.76 / $239.98

Reolink and Botslab cloud plan prices were not readable on their US pages today, so they are not in this table. We do not estimate them.

Four-camera home, hardware and plan over 24 months, using annual billing where the vendor prints one. The Ring figure uses the "from" price of the 1080p model for four cameras, and the 2K model from $49.99 (until the offer ends on November 30, 2026) would make it $399.94 (four cameras at $199.96, plus two years of Multi at $199.98).

Four cameras over 24 months, hardware plus the plan that covers all of them (computed from vendor prices, November 3, 2026)
Setup Hardware, four cameras Plan, 24 months (annual) Total
aosu 4-camera kit, no plan $259.99 $0 $259.99
Ring Outdoor Cam (from $79.99 each) with Multi $319.96 $199.98 $519.94
Eufy 4-camera kit with Plus $349.99 $279.98 $629.97
Wyze Cam v4 (4 at $44.98) with Cam Unlimited $179.92 $198.00 $377.92

Reolink's Argus 4 Pro is a single camera at $179.99, list $214.99 (Nov 3, 2026), with local SD storage and a 4K picture. Eufy's C35 kit is two cameras with microSD storage and no monthly fee. For one camera, the Reolink is the better-specified camera on the page. For two, the Eufy kit costs less than two Argus cameras at $359.98. Reolink's cloud plan price is not in this comparison because we could not read it.

aosu vs Eufy: the same price, different storage

The aosu and Eufy 2-camera kits cost the same. The aosu page says local storage needs no subscription. The Eufy page says microSD storage carries no monthly fee but that the card is not included. Pick aosu if you want local storage with nothing extra to buy, and Eufy if you already own a microSD card and want the IP67 battery setup, which takes an external solar panel, with a cloud option.

The aosu review we wrote covers the camera in more depth: the aosu security camera review.

Who should buy which

  • Stop paying for Ring recordings, two cameras: the aosu SolarCam P1 SE kit, if you do not need 24/7 recording.
  • Battery cameras with a card you already own: the eufyCam C35 kit, with the cloud option if you change your mind.
  • 4K and a bigger local store: the Botslab W510 pre-order at $320.99 for two cameras, shipping in about 2 months.
  • One 4K camera with solar: the Reolink Argus 4 Pro at $179.99, list $214.99 (Nov 3, 2026).
  • A powered wall or porch on a budget: the Wyze Cam v4 from $44.98 a camera.

Keep the Ring Outdoor Cam if you already pay for Solo or Multi and want cloud recording with alerts. The cheapest way to drop Ring is not a cheap camera, it is a camera that records to a card.

FAQ

Can I use a Ring camera without a Ring Protect plan?

Yes, for live view and alerts. Ring's help article says that without a subscription you can view live video and respond to alerts as they happen. It also says a subscription is required to review recorded video, so without a plan there are no saved clips to watch back.

What is the cheapest camera that records without a monthly plan?

The Wyze Cam v4 at $44.98 is the lowest hardware price in this table, but it is mains powered and needs a microSD card. Among battery and solar cameras, the aosu SolarCam P1 SE 2-camera kit ties the eufyCam kit at $199.99 among the kits in this table.

Is the eufyCam C35 subscription free?

Local storage on a microSD card has no monthly fee, according to Eufy's page read November 3, 2026. Cloud backup is a separate paid service: Basic is $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year for one device, and Plus is $13.99 a month or $139.99 a year for all devices.

Does the Reolink Argus 4 Pro need a subscription?

Reolink's product page says the camera supports local SD card storage, so recording to a card needs no plan. Reolink Cloud is listed as available in selected countries. We could not read its plan prices on Reolink's US pages today, so we cannot give a cloud cost.

How much does Wyze Cam Plus cost for two cameras over two years?

Cam Plus is $2.99 a month per camera, so two cameras cost $5.98 a month, or $143.52 over 24 months. Wyze's page does not print an annual Cam Plus price. Cam Unlimited, for unlimited cameras, is $9.99 a month or $99 a year, so $198 over 24 months on annual billing.

Is Tapo Care worth it for one camera?

Tapo Care Cloud, for up to two devices, is $3.49 a month or $34.99 a year, with 30 days of cloud storage. For one camera, the annual plan comes to $69.98 over 24 months, on top of the camera's price, which we could not read on Tapo's page.

Methodology

We compared six cameras that compete with Ring's battery models, using vendor pages only, read on November 3, 2026. 1. footage stored locally without a plan; 2. battery or solar power ahead of plug-in; 3. hardware cost per camera; ties go to what the kit includes (aosu: 32 GB and solar panels in the box). Plan totals are our arithmetic from printed prices. Where a vendor prints no price, we say so.
