The Botslab W313 ($79.00 on sale) and the TP-Link Tapo C425 Kit V2 ($99.99 on sale) follow. Dupple card: the top five in ranking order, prices read November 3, 2026

Dupple data: six of the eight cameras take a microSD card, and all six record to it with no plan. On the vendor pages we read, only Wyze, Ring and Arlo tie person alerts to a plan. The order below comes from a points score that counts the plan a camera needs, so a cheap camera with an expensive plan does not win by its sticker price alone.

The table lists all eight in ranking order, with the points each one earned. Points are explained in the methodology at the end of the page.

1. aosu SolarCam P1 Max: best for solar 4K with no plan

aosu SolarCam P1 Max, white outdoor camera with a solar panel on top and the 4K UHD badge on the body.
Image: aosu

$129.99 (sale price, read November 3, 2026) at aosu's US store. The store prints $167.99 struck through beside it, and its reference-price policy calls a struck figure an "Estimated Value", not a list price.

The camera has 4K UHD video, an integrated solar panel, full-color night vision and an IP65 rating. It takes a microSD card of up to 128 GB, and the store describes local storage as needing no subscription. An optional cloud plan, aosuProtect+ Basic, costs $4.99 a month. The cloud page we read gives no yearly price.

Pros: 4K video, solar power and local storage with no plan.

Cons: first place rests on the sale price, which aosu's page data lists as valid until November 13, 2026. At the struck $167.99 it still scores 6 but falls to fourth on the cost tie-break. Its 128 GB card limit is the smallest of the cameras that take a card.

Best for: a sunny outdoor wall where you want 4K and no monthly fee.

2. Botslab W313: best for pan and tilt on solar

Botslab W313 outdoor pan and tilt camera, white dome with two antennas and a black lens housing.
Image: Botslab

$79.00 on sale at Botslab's US store, read November 3, 2026. The store labels $109.00 as the regular price.

The W313 has 2K (3MP) video, a 360° pan and 136° tilt, and a solar panel with a 5,200 mAh battery. Its night vision is full-color and infrared. The page lists AI human detection, an IP65 rating and microSD storage of up to 256 GB. Cloud storage is free for the first year. The page we read gives no price after that.

Pros: the lowest 24-month total with no plan, pan and tilt, and a free first year of cloud.

Cons: Wi-Fi runs on 2.4 GHz only. Because the cloud price after year one is unknown, the 24-month total of $79.00 is a floor, not a full cost.

Best for: a pan and tilt view of a yard or driveway on solar power, with no plan to start.

Dupple spec card for TP-Link Tapo C425 Kit V2: $99.99 sale, 2K QHD with solar and battery, microSD up to 512 GB, cloud needs Tapo Care.

Pros: solar power, spotlights and a card limit of 512 GB, with no plan needed to record.

REOLINK Argus 4 Pro product drawing, front and side views with dimensions of 128 mm by 86 mm and 148 mm.

Pros: 4K video, a 180° view and no monthly fees.

Best for: a 4K view of a front yard or driveway with no plan.

See the Argus 4 Pro on Amazon Opens Amazon; the price on Amazon may differ. The $179.99 above is REOLINK's own US store price.

Pros: dual 4K, 12x zoom and local storage with no monthly fee.

Cons: it is the most expensive camera on this page. Its night view is infrared with spotlight color, so the color image depends on the spotlight.

7. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus: best for people already on a Ring plan

Dupple spec card for Ring Outdoor Cam Plus: $99.99, Retinal 2K video with battery, solar or wired power, recording needs a Ring plan.
Dupple spec card

Ring describes a weather-resistant build but gives no IP rating. The page lists no microSD slot. Recorded history comes through a Ring plan: Solo covers one device at $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year, with up to 180 days of playback and person alerts.

Pros: 2K video in full color at night, and power from battery, solar, wired or PoE.

Cons: without a plan there is no recorded history, and the plan is half of this camera's 24-month total. It scores 4 of 7.

Best for: a household already in the Ring app that expects to pay for a plan anyway.

What each camera costs over 12 and 24 months

Dupple data: computed from vendor prices on November 3, 2026. Each row adds the device price to the plan that the camera's own page ties to recorded history or person alerts. Optional cloud plans are not counted. A camera with no required plan costs its device price.

Device and required plan cost for one camera, at 12 and 24 months (computed November 3, 2026)
Camera Device (Nov 3, 2026) Required plan 12 months 24 months
aosu SolarCam P1 Max $129.99 None (optional cloud $4.99 a month) $129.99 $129.99
Botslab W313 $79.00 None (cloud free for year one; later price not read) $79.00 $79.00 (floor)
TP-Link Tapo C425 Kit V2 $99.99 None (optional Tapo Care Cloud, $3.49 a month per device or $34.99 a year) $99.99 $99.99
Wyze Battery Cam $59.98 Cam Plus, $29.99 a year $89.97 $119.96
REOLINK Argus 4 Pro $179.99 sale (camera plus solar panel, no SD card) None (no monthly fees) $179.99 $179.99
eufy SoloCam E50 $229.99 None (optional cloud $39.99 a year) $229.99 $229.99
Ring Outdoor Cam Plus $99.99 Ring Solo, $49.99 a year $149.98 $199.97
Arlo Pro 6 $124.99 Smart Aware, $95.88 a year $220.87 $316.75

The arithmetic, once: a yearly plan is cheaper than twelve monthly payments for each brand that sells both. Ring Solo is $49.99 a year against $59.88 for twelve months at $4.99. Wyze Cam Plus is $29.99 against $35.88, and Arlo Smart Aware is $95.88 against $119.88. Over 24 months, Ring is $99.99 + 2 × $49.99 = $199.97, and Arlo is $124.99 + 2 × $95.88 = $316.75.

Among the cameras with no required plan, Botslab and Tapo are the two lowest totals. Wyze, at $119.96 with Cam Plus, is the lowest total of any camera that needs a plan. The Botslab W313 total of $79.00 is a floor, because its cloud price after year one is not on the page we read.

See the W313 on Botslab's store

If you buy aosu's optional cloud, 24 months at $4.99 adds $119.76 to the device price, which brings the total to $249.75.

See the SolarCam P1 Max on aosu's store

The REOLINK Argus 4 Pro has no monthly fee on its own page, so its 24-month total is the device price alone.

How to choose

  • Outdoors: look for an IP65 or IP66 rating on the vendor page. Ring and Arlo describe weather resistance without a rating.
  • No wires: every camera here runs on battery or solar in its wireless setup, so none needs a power cable.
  • No subscription: choose one that records to microSD and lists no plan for it. That is aosu, Botslab, Tapo, REOLINK and eufy on the pages we read, the five that tie no alerts to a plan.
  • Apartment: a battery or solar camera avoids running power. Check your lease before you drill, and note that the Botslab needs a 2.4 GHz network.
  • Person alerts without a subscription: the pages we read tie them to a plan for Wyze, Ring and Arlo, so budget for that plan with those brands.

FAQ

What is the best home security camera in 2026?

The aosu SolarCam P1 Max scores highest, 7 of 7, with 4K video, solar power, microSD storage and no required plan. Its price is $129.99 on sale, as of November 2026, and aosu's page data lists that price as valid until November 13, 2026. At the $167.99 figure struck through beside it, which the store calls an "Estimated Value", it drops to fourth on the cost tie-break, so check the price you can actually buy today.

Which home security camera works without a subscription?

Six of the eight record to a card with no plan. Five of them (aosu, Botslab, Tapo, REOLINK, eufy) tie no alerts to a plan. Ring and Arlo need a plan for recorded history. For a longer list that goes deeper on this question, see Ring alternatives with no subscription.

Is a 4K camera worth more than a 2K one?

4K is 3840 × 2160 pixels, about 2.25 times the 2560 × 1440 of 2K QHD, so a 4K frame keeps more detail for a face at the far end of a driveway. The 4K cameras here are aosu, REOLINK and eufy, at $129.99 to $229.99. The 2K cameras are Botslab, Tapo, Wyze, Ring and Arlo, at $59.98 to $124.99. The 4K models cost more, so weigh the extra detail against that gap.

For a 4K camera with no plan, the Argus 4 Pro on Amazon is one option (opens Amazon; the price on Amazon may differ). Its price is on REOLINK's US store.

Do I need a subscription for a security camera?

Not always. On the pages we read, Ring, Arlo and Wyze tie person alerts or recorded history to a plan. Six of the eight record to a card with no plan. Five of them (aosu, Botslab, Tapo, REOLINK, eufy) tie no alerts to a plan.

Which camera suits a rented apartment?

A battery or solar model, because it needs no power cable. The Wyze Battery Cam at $59.98 is the lowest device price here. The Botslab W313 runs on solar at $79.00 on sale. Check your lease before you mount anything, and make sure your Wi-Fi reaches the spot, since the Botslab uses 2.4 GHz only.

Why does the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus rank seventh?

Its page lists no microSD slot, so recorded history needs Ring Solo at $49.99 a year. That gives it 4 of 7 points. Its 24-month total with the plan is $199.97, which is above the REOLINK Argus 4 Pro at its $179.99 sale price and well above the Tapo kit at $99.99.

Is the Botslab W313 really $79?

On Botslab's US store on November 3, 2026, the W313 was $79.00, with $109.00 labelled as the regular price. Its cloud is free for the first year. The store page we read gives no price after that, so the 24-month total is a floor.

Methodology

We compared eight cameras from the vendors' own US stores and plan pages, read on November 3, 2026. Every price, resolution, storage size, power source and rating comes from a vendor page or a vendor store feed, with the URL in the sources list. We did not test any camera.

The ranking rule: each camera scores up to 7 points. A 4K camera earns 2 points and a 2K camera earns 1. Full-color or spotlight color night vision earns 1. Local microSD storage that records with no plan earns 1. Battery or solar power earns 1. The 24-month cost earns 2 points under $150, 1 point from $150 to $250, and none above $250. That cost is the device price plus the plan the camera's page ties to recorded history or person alerts, for 24 months, at the cheaper of the monthly or yearly price. Ties go to the lower 24-month cost. Affiliate status plays no part: aosu, Botslab and REOLINK carry affiliate links, and they sit first, second and fifth on their own points.

Two of the top three rest on sale prices. aosu's page data lists its $129.99 as valid until November 13, 2026. We read no end date for Botslab's $79.00. At the struck figures, $167.99 for aosu (an "Estimated Value" on the store's policy) and $109.00 for Botslab (its printed regular price), aosu drops to fourth, and the top four become Tapo, Botslab, Wyze and aosu. Check the price on the day you buy.
