The three devices, one by one

1. PLAUD Note Pro, best for desk-based teams with in-person and phone meetings

Dupple spec card for PLAUD Note Pro: $189.00 regular price, read Oct 30, 2026, 30 h Enhance and 50 h Endurance battery, 112+ languages and 64 GB storage, records in person and phone calls.
Dupple spec card

Price: $189.00 regular price on plaud.ai, read October 30, 2026. In stock on PLAUD's US store in Black and Silver on October 30, 2026 (stock is set per market, so a visitor outside the US can see "Out of Stock").

Key specs: up to 30 hours in Enhance mode or 50 hours in Endurance mode, 112+ languages, a 0.95-inch AMOLED display, 64 GB of storage, and recording up to 16.4 feet away. The vendor says it records in person and on phone calls.

Pros

  • 50 hours in Endurance mode, against 20 hours for the NotePin S.
  • Records both in-person conversations and phone calls, which the NotePin S cannot do.
  • Every plan lists ISO 27701, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and EN 18031 compliance, per the plan page.

Cons

  • The free Starter plan holds 300 minutes a month, which is 5 hours. A heavy user needs Pro at $8.33 a month billed annually ($99.99 a year) for 1,200 minutes, or $17.99 a month billed monthly.
  • At $189 it is the most expensive of the three devices on this page.
  • Google Calendar, Notion, Slack, Linear and Zapier integrations are listed as "Preview". The plan page lists no Zoom or Google Meet bot, and the vendor points online meetings to Plaud Desktop.

Best for: teams that want one recorder on the desk for in-person and phone meetings, with the compliance list above.

2. PLAUD NotePin S, best for hands-free capture in person

Dupple spec card for PLAUD NotePin S: $179.00 regular price, read Oct 30, 2026, 0.61 oz wearable with up to 20 h recording, 112+ languages and 64 GB storage, in-person audio only with no phone calls.

Pros

  • $10 less than the PLAUD Note Pro, and light enough to wear all day.
  • Hands-free use: a long press starts a recording and a short press marks a key moment, per the vendor's description.
  • Uses the same PLAUD app, summary templates and plans as the Note Pro.

Cons

  • No phone-call recording. The vendor describes it as in-person audio only.
  • Up to 20 hours of recording, against 30 to 50 hours on the Note Pro.

3. Pocket, best for a low-cost start and phone calls

Dupple spec card for Pocket: $129.00 on sale, list $199.00, Oct 30, 2026, 4 days of active use, 120+ languages and 64 GB onboard, records phone calls via contact mic.
Dupple spec card

Price: $129.00 on sale, list $199.00, on the US store, in stock with free shipping, read October 30, 2026.

Key specs: four days of active use (the vendor gives no hour figure), 120+ languages, 64 GB onboard plus unlimited cloud storage, a range of up to 15 meters (49 feet), two studio microphones and one contact microphone, 52 g, and a MagSafe mount. Pocket has no screen.

Pros

  • The lowest device price of the three today, below both PLAUD devices.
  • The Free plan is "free to use, forever", with unlimited standard-accuracy transcription and no subscription needed to start.
  • Captures phone calls: the contact microphone picks up a call without a speaker, per the vendor's spec sheet.

Cons

  • Free keeps summaries for 30 days and allows 3 Ask Pocket chats a day. Pro, at $19.99 a month billed yearly ($239.88 a year), keeps summaries forever and removes the chat cap. Pocket's store also sells 12 months of Pro for $168, marked as a sale against a regular price of $359.88, with no end date shown (read November 3, 2026).
  • Pro renews automatically until you cancel, and the vendor's terms say subscription fees are non-refundable.
  • The "4 days of active use" claim has no hour figure, so it cannot be compared with PLAUD's hours directly.

Best for: a first AI note taker on a budget, used mostly for in-person and phone conversations, with no subscription.

Which AI note taker is cheapest after 1 and 2 years?

Dupple data: computed from vendor prices on October 30, 2026. A light user records 5 hours a month, which is 300 minutes: exactly PLAUD's free Starter allowance, and Pocket's Free plan covers it too. A heavy user records 20 hours a month, which is 1,200 minutes: exactly PLAUD Pro's allowance. Any month above 20 hours needs PLAUD Unlimited ($20.00/mo billed annually, $239.99 a year; $29.99 monthly). We show Pocket on Pro and on Free, because the Free plan keeps summaries for only 30 days and caps Ask Pocket at 3 chats a day. Annual billing is used where a plan offers it.

The arithmetic, once: the Note Pro costs its device plus 12 months of Pro at $99.99 a year, so $288.99 for the first year and $388.98 for two years. For Pocket Pro, the device plus $168 for each 12-month term on Pocket's store makes $297 for the first year and $465 for two, if the $168 price still applies when you renew; at the plan table's $239.88 a year it would be $608.76. Pocket Free adds no subscription, so it stays at $129.

Two-year cost by device and usage, annual billing where a plan offers it (October 30, 2026)
Device Light user plan (5 h a month) Light, 12 months Light, 24 months Heavy user plan (20 h a month) Heavy, 12 months Heavy, 24 months
PLAUD Note Pro Starter, free $189.00 $189.00 Pro, $8.33/mo billed annually ($99.99 a year) $288.99 $388.98
PLAUD NotePin S Starter, free $179.00 $179.00 Pro, $8.33/mo billed annually ($99.99 a year) $278.99 $378.98
Pocket (Pro when heavy) Free $129.00 $129.00 Pro, $168 for 12 months on Pocket's store (plan table: $239.88 a year) $297 $465
Pocket Free Free $129.00 $129.00 Free (standard accuracy, summaries kept 30 days, 3 chats a day) $129.00 $129.00
Bar chart of two-year cost. Light user: PLAUD Note Pro $189, PLAUD NotePin S $179, Pocket $129. Heavy user: PLAUD Note Pro on Pro, PLAUD NotePin S on Pro, Pocket Pro, and Pocket Free, in that order.
Our own chart of the table above, from the same vendor prices read on October 30, 2026, with Pocket Pro's 12-month store price read on November 3, 2026.

Verdict: Pocket Free costs least for either user, if its limits are acceptable. Among the Pro plans, the NotePin S costs least over two years ($378.98), and the Note Pro comes in $76.02 below Pocket Pro, so PLAUD is cheaper than Pocket Pro for heavy use. If you pay PLAUD's monthly Pro rate of $17.99 instead of the annual rate, the Note Pro's heavy-user cost rises to $620.76 over 24 months.

PLAUD Note Pro vs Pocket

The Note Pro costs $60 more up front than Pocket's sale price. For that money you get 300 free minutes a month, 50 hours of battery in Endurance mode and a display. Pocket Free has no minute cap in the vendor's words, but it keeps summaries for 30 days and limits Ask Pocket to 3 chats a day. Over 24 months, Pocket Free costs less for either user if its limits are acceptable, while the Note Pro on Pro beats Pocket Pro for a heavy user.

PLAUD Note Pro against Pocket: price, free plan and battery (October 30, 2026)
Device Price Free plan Battery (vendor claim)
PLAUD Note Pro $189.00 300 minutes a month 30 to 50 hours
Pocket $129.00 on sale Unlimited standard transcription, summaries kept 30 days 4 days of active use

Verdict: buy Pocket Free for a light user, or for a heavy user who can live with 30-day summaries and 3 chats a day. Buy the PLAUD Note Pro on Pro for a heavy user who needs more than Pocket Free's limits, since it costs less than Pocket Pro.

PLAUD NotePin S vs Pocket

Both devices record in person, and both cost less than $190. The NotePin S weighs 0.61 oz and clips on, but it records in person only and runs up to 20 hours. Pocket records phone calls through its contact microphone and runs four days of active use, which the vendor does not convert into hours. Pocket Free costs least for either user if its limits are acceptable. On Pro, a heavy user pays $378.98 for the NotePin S and $465 for Pocket Pro.

PLAUD NotePin S against Pocket: price, phone calls and battery (October 30, 2026)
Device Price Phone calls Battery (vendor claim)
PLAUD NotePin S $179.00 No, in-person audio only Up to 20 hours
Pocket $129.00 on sale Yes, contact microphone 4 days of active use

Verdict: the NotePin S is the pick for hands-free in-person meetings you want to wear. Pocket wins if phone calls matter more than the wearable.

Is Pocket worth it?

Pocket is worth it when its Free plan is enough. You get unlimited standard-accuracy transcription with no subscription needed to start, phone-call capture through the contact microphone, and a $129 sale price. The limits are summaries kept for 30 days and 3 Ask Pocket chats a day.

It stops being good value at heavy use if you need Pro's features. Pro, at $168 for 12 months on Pocket's store (plan table: $239.88 a year), is the only route to summaries kept forever, the highest-accuracy transcription and unlimited Ask Pocket chats. At 20 hours a month, that pushes the two-year cost to $465, which is $76.02 more than the PLAUD Note Pro on Pro. The subscription also auto-renews, and the vendor's terms make subscription fees non-refundable.

Do you need a device at all? PLAUD and Pocket vs Otter

If your meetings happen on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, an app may be enough. Otter's pricing page lists a Basic plan with 300 monthly transcription minutes per user, free, and a Pro plan with 1,200 minutes per user. Otter caps each conversation at 30 minutes on Basic and 90 minutes on Pro, Otter's Business plan has no monthly minute limit for meetings and in-app recordings, and it caps each conversation at 4 hours.

A device earns its cost when the conversation is not an online call, such as a room meeting, a sales visit or a phone call. Pocket and the PLAUD devices record those. If most meetings run on video, start with the app.

Who should buy which

  • Light user (about 5 hours a month), on a budget, phone calls included: Pocket on its Free plan. It is the cheapest over two years for this use.
  • Heavy user whose needs fit Pocket Free: Pocket on its Free plan, $129 over 24 months, if summaries kept for 30 days are enough.
  • Heavy user who needs Pro features, in-person meetings, a desk recorder: PLAUD Note Pro on Pro. Over 24 months it costs $76.02 less than Pocket Pro.
  • Hands-free sales visits or interviews: PLAUD NotePin S, if you do not need phone calls.
  • Mostly video meetings: an app such as Otter first. Add a device for the room conversations.
  • Want AI drafts of follow-ups from the recording: the Comu Action Pro box above is the third option on this page.

The bottom line

For a light user, Pocket wins on price, and unlike the NotePin S it records phone calls. For a heavy user, Pocket Free is the cheapest if its limits are acceptable. If they are not, PLAUD Note Pro on Pro costs $76.02 less than Pocket Pro over 24 months. The NotePin S is the wearable, and it does not record phone calls.

FAQ

Which is cheaper over 2 years, PLAUD or Pocket?

For a light user (5 hours a month), the device price is the whole two-year bill, because every free plan covers that use, and Pocket is the cheapest device. For a heavy user (20 hours a month), Pocket Free costs $129 if its limits are acceptable. On Pro, the PLAUD NotePin S costs $378.98, the PLAUD Note Pro $388.98 and Pocket Pro $465, all on annual billing or 12-month terms (Dupple data, prices read October 30 and November 3, 2026).

Does Pocket need a subscription?

No, not to start. Pocket's Free plan includes unlimited standard-accuracy transcription, 3 Ask Pocket chats a day and summaries kept for 30 days. Pro costs $19.99 a month billed yearly ($239.88 a year) on its plan table, or 12 months on Pocket's store at a sale price (read November 3, 2026).

Does PLAUD work without a subscription?

Yes. Every PLAUD device includes the Starter plan at no cost, with 300 transcription minutes a month, which is 5 hours. A heavy user needs Pro at $8.33 a month billed annually ($99.99 a year) for 1,200 minutes, which is 20 hours. Any month above 20 hours needs Unlimited at $20.00 a month billed annually ($239.99 a year), or $29.99 billed monthly.

Which records phone calls?

The PLAUD Note Pro and Pocket both record phone calls, per their vendors. The PLAUD NotePin S does not: PLAUD describes it as in-person audio only.

Which has more languages?

Pocket claims 120+ languages and PLAUD claims 112+ on both devices.

Is there a discount code?

Dupple holds one code, DUPPLE, for the Comu Action Pro, shown in the box above. We hold no code for PLAUD or Pocket, so their prices on this page are the list or sale prices the vendors show.

Is Pocket worth it?

Yes, if Pocket's Free plan is enough: a light user pays $129 and gets unlimited standard-accuracy transcription. At heavy use, Pro at $168 for 12 months brings Pocket to $465 over 24 months, which is $76.02 more than the PLAUD Note Pro on Pro.

Is PLAUD Note Pro in stock in the US?

Yes. On October 30, 2026 PLAUD's US store showed the Note Pro available in Black and Silver at $189, and both colours added to the cart. Stock is set per market: from outside the US the page showed "Out of Stock", so check your country's store view before you buy.

Methodology

Every price and plan on this page comes from the vendor's own pages, read on October 30, 2026: plaud.ai for the PLAUD devices, plan prices and US stock, heypocket.com (US view) for Pocket, store.comu.com for the Comu box, and otter.ai for Otter's plan caps. The costs are computed from those prices, assume recordings equal transcription minutes, and use annual billing where a plan offers it. None of the three devices was tested hands-on. The devices are ordered by fit for each use, not by affiliate pay. Prices move, so we re-read them each month and change the date only when a figure changes.

Sources

Pocket Free is the cheapest choice if its limits are acceptable, and PLAUD is cheaper than Pocket Pro for heavy use. Check the plan you will actually use before you buy, because that choice decides the total.
