How to see who viewed your deck
Emailing a PDF is easy. Knowing whether the partner opened it, how far they scrolled, and whether they forwarded it is the actual job. That is why DocSend exists, and why people look for something that does the same thing without DocSend's bill.
The tool we reviewed for that job is Papermark. It is a data room and document share with view tracking: you send a link, you see the opens. New users get 20% off through our Papermark link.
The short version
- Put the deck in Papermark (or DocSend if you already pay for it). Do not attach the file.
- Turn on email gating if you need a name, or leave it open if you need less friction.
- Send the link. Optionally set a password or an expiry.
- Watch page-level time. A two-second open on slide 1 is not a read. Three minutes on the pricing slide is.
- Follow up on the pages they actually stayed on, not a generic "just checking in."
If you only needed a short link, that is Dub, not a data room. Do not buy Papermark to shrink a URL.
Papermark vs DocSend vs "just Google Drive"
DocSend is the incumbent. Fine if you are already in that workspace. You are here because you are not.
Google Drive / Notion / Dropbox will tell you something opened. They will not give you a clean page-by-page story you can put in a CRM, and forwarding is sloppy.
Papermark is the DocSend-shaped product we could verify. Link, views, optional gate, watermarking depending on plan. Read the Papermark review for the dated feature and price list. We do not have a DocSend affiliate. This is not a fake three-way where we secretly own all three.
When this is the wrong tool
- The file is a contract that needs signatures. Use an e-sign product.
- The file is a public blog post. Use your site.
- You need to pay an affiliate when someone signs up after the click. That is Dub plus your checkout, not a data room.
