Updated November 3, 2026: prices re-checked on each vendor's US store or pricing page. Compared from vendor specs and pricing pages, not tested hands-on.

The Tangem Wallet is a hardware wallet shaped like a card that you tap to your phone. As of November 2026, Tangem's US store sells a 2-card set for $59.90, a 3-card set for $69.90 and a Ring with two cards for $140 (list $160, a sale shown on November 3). Tangem says there is no subscription. Its FAQ calls the phone a display, so the phone is the screen. Ledger and Trezor are the usual comparisons.

Tangem packs and prices on Tangem's US store

Tangem sells the wallet in packs, and the pack decides the price. The pricing page below was read with the United States selected as delivery country and USD as currency, on November 3, 2026.

How the Tangem card works

Tangem says each wallet contains a certified microchip developed with Samsung Semiconductors and certified to EAL6+, and the Ring carries the same Common Criteria EAL6+ certification. Tangem's security page says the keys are generated on the card, stay on the card and are used there for signing, and that Tangem has no mechanism to extract or rebuild a user's keys.

Activation works like this. The chip creates a random private key using its hardware random number generator, and Tangem says no copy of that key exists outside the device. When you add a second card, the two cards link with end-to-end encryption to pass the key between them. Tangem also says an access code protects the wallet from strangers and from brute-force guessing. The wallet talks to the phone over NFC and needs no battery or charger.

The seed phrase is optional. Tangem's FAQ lists three ways to create the key: the chip generates it and nothing is copied outside the device, which Tangem recommends; the app generates a seed phrase that you import into the card; or you import a seed phrase from another wallet. Tangem also notes that seed phrases can be copied and stolen, unlike keys generated offline.

What happens if you lose a card or your phone

Losing the phone is the easy case: Tangem's FAQ says you do not lose funds, and any compatible phone with the app and your card shows the portfolio again. Losing a card is harder. With the 3-card set, losing one card leaves two, which Tangem says can ensure access. With the 2-card set, losing one card and forgetting the access code leaves no way to reset or recover the wallet, according to Tangem's own FAQ. That is the main caveat in this review, and the fix costs $10 more: $69.90 for three cards against $59.90 for two.

Coins, networks, the app and fees

Tangem says its wallet stores more than 14,100 tokens across 90 blockchains. That is Tangem's own count, so it does not compare cleanly with the coin counts Ledger and Trezor publish. Check the list for your own coins before you buy.

The Tangem app is free. Tangem's homepage says the app is open source and its code is on GitHub. For the card, Tangem's pages describe audits and immutable firmware rather than open-source code. Its security page lists a firmware audit in December 2023 and a mobile wallet audit in March 2026. The Ring's page says its firmware cannot be updated.

On fees, Tangem's pricing FAQ says the only ongoing costs are standard blockchain network fees when you send or swap crypto, and that these go to the network, not to Tangem. Buying and swapping run through outside providers, which Tangem's footer calls third-party services it gives no advice on. The pages read for this review give no swap or buy percentage, so read the provider quote in the app before you confirm.

The three wallets, one card each

Tangem is the subject. Ledger Nano S Plus and Trezor Safe 3 are the closest alternatives on price. Each card gives the price read on the vendor's US store on November 3, 2026.

1. Tangem Wallet: no subscription, no paper seed, no screen

$59.90 for the 2-card set, or $69.90 for three cards, on Tangem's US store (read November 3, 2026).

  • No subscription: Tangem's FAQ says you pay once, and the app is free.
  • More than 14,100 tokens across 90 blockchains, by Tangem's own count.
  • The seed phrase is optional, and the chip can create the key with no copy outside the card.

Cons: with the 2-card set, losing one card and forgetting the access code means no recovery. The phone is the only display: you tap the card to the phone to sign. Standard shipping is free only on orders above $89, so a single 2-card set may carry a shipping charge.

Best for: buyers who want no subscription and no paper seed, and who take the 3-card set.

2. Ledger Nano S Plus: a screen on the device and an optional recovery service

Dupple spec card for Ledger Nano S Plus: $69, EAL6+ Secure Element chip, USB-C battery-free connection, thousands of coins and tokens.
Dupple spec card

$69 on Ledger's US store (read November 3, 2026). The Nano X costs $99 and adds Bluetooth.

  • Ledger says transactions are approved on the device's own screen, which Ledger calls a Trusted Display.
  • The Secure Element chip is rated EAL6+ on Ledger's product page.
  • Ledger Recover is an optional service backed by Coincover, which Ledger says may pay up to $50,000, subject to investigation.

Cons: Ledger Recover costs $99.99 a year, which the Tangem 2-card set does not need. The default backup is a 24-word phrase on paper, which Ledger's own Recover page calls fragile. The S Plus has no Bluetooth; Ledger's page says the $99 Nano X has it.

Best for: buyers who want a screen on the device and will pay for a recovery service.

3. Trezor Safe 3: open-source code and a screen for $59

Dupple spec card for Trezor Safe 3: $59, Secure Element chip EAL6+, 0.96-inch OLED, thousands of coins and tokens.

$59 on Trezor's US store (read November 3, 2026). The Safe 5 costs $129 and the Safe 7 costs $249.

  • Trezor says its code and design are 100% open source.
  • The Safe 3 has a Secure Element chip that Trezor's page lists as EAL6+.
  • Trezor lists an advanced multi-share backup on the Safe 3 page.

Cons: the Safe 3 has a 0.96-inch monochrome OLED with two buttons, a smaller screen than the 1.1-inch screen Ledger lists for the Nano S Plus. A touchscreen starts with the Safe 5 at $129.

Best for: buyers who want open-source code and an on-device screen for under $60.

Tangem vs Ledger

Tangem costs less up front, $59.90 against $69, and has no recurring fee. Ledger's Nano S Plus gives you an on-device screen and a 24-word paper phrase, and its optional Ledger Recover service costs $99.99 a year. The three-way comparison with Trezor is on Tangem vs Ledger vs Trezor.

Tangem and Ledger on price, screen and recovery (read November 3, 2026)
Product Price Screen Recovery
Tangem 2-card set $59.90 None of its own; the phone shows the app Second card; Tangem says a 3-card set improves recovery options
Ledger Nano S Plus $69 1.1-inch screen on the device 24-word phrase on paper; optional Ledger Recover at $99.99 a year

Verdict: Tangem fits a buyer who wants no yearly fee and no paper phrase. Ledger fits a buyer who wants a screen on the device and is willing to pay for a recovery service. Compare the Tangem packs on Tangem's store.

Tangem vs Trezor

Trezor Safe 3 costs $59, which is $0.90 less than the Tangem 2-card set, and the pages read show no subscription for either. The difference is the device. The Safe 3 has a screen and two buttons, and Trezor describes its code and design as open source. Tangem's phone is its display, and its open-source claim covers the app, not the card.

Tangem and Trezor Safe 3 on price, screen and open source (read November 3, 2026)
Product Price Screen Open source
Tangem 2-card set $59.90 None of its own; the phone shows the app The app; the card is audited, not called open source
Trezor Safe 3 $59 0.96-inch OLED, two buttons Code and design, per Trezor

Verdict: the choice is a screen with open-source code (Trezor) or cards with no paper seed (Tangem). See the Trezor Safe 3 on Trezor's store.

Which is cheapest after 12 and 24 months?

Tangem and Trezor show no recurring fee on the pages read, so their 12 and 24 month totals equal the device price. Only the Ledger Recover service adds a recurring cost: $99.99 a year, or $49.99 for 6 months, on Ledger's store. Ledger offers one month free at sign-up, which the table does not apply.

Total cost of ownership, device plus recurring fees, in USD (Dupple data: computed from vendor prices on Nov 3, 2026)
Option Device 12 months 24 months
Tangem 2-card set $59.90 $59.90 $59.90
Tangem 3-card set $69.90 $69.90 $69.90
Trezor Safe 3 $59.00 $59.00 $59.00
Ledger Nano S Plus $69.00 $69.00 $69.00
Ledger Nano S Plus with Ledger Recover $69.00 $168.99 $268.98

Dupple data: computed from vendor prices on Nov 3, 2026. The Ledger Recover row is $69 plus $99.99 for year one, which is $168.99. For 24 months it is $69 plus two years at $99.99, which is $268.98, assuming the yearly price stays the same. Ledger's terms say a monthly renewal is processed in euros, so check the currency on the yearly plan before you subscribe.

Verdict: the Trezor Safe 3 is the lowest 24 month total in this table at $59, the Tangem 2-card set is $0.90 more, and Ledger with Recover is the only option with a recurring fee, at $268.98. Check the Tangem 2-card price on Tangem's store.

  • Two people, two wallets: the Tangem Family Pack at $139.80.
  • Logins as the bigger risk: a wallet protects keys, not accounts. Our password manager guide covers the logins.

Does Tangem charge a subscription or a monthly fee?

No, according to Tangem's pricing FAQ. The only ongoing costs are network fees when you send or swap crypto, and those go to the network, not to Tangem.

Can I recover a Tangem if I lose one card?

With the 3-card set, yes: the other two cards keep access. With the 2-card set, losing one card and forgetting the access code leaves no way to reset or recover the wallet, per Tangem's FAQ.

Do I need a seed phrase with a Tangem Wallet?

No. The seed phrase is optional. The chip can create the key itself, and Tangem recommends that option because no copy exists outside the device.

Is Tangem open source?

Tangem's homepage says the app is open source and its code is on GitHub. Tangem does not call the card firmware open source. Its security page lists audits of the hardware and firmware in December 2023 and of the mobile wallet in March 2026.

Does a Tangem Wallet still work if the company shuts down?
