Updated November 4, 2026: prices re-checked on each vendor's US store or pricing page. Compared from vendor specs and pricing pages, not tested hands-on.

Tractive's DOG 6 in its three editions ($79, $89 for the XL and $119 for the XL Adventure), SATELLAI Collar Go ($79.99) and Garmin Alpha LTE ($299.99) rank first to third of nine GPS dog collar picks as of November 2026, at $223.00, $283.78 and $399.97 over 24 months with the plan each one needs. The order uses one rule: device price plus the cheapest plan the vendor requires, summed over two years, with at most two numbered picks per brand. Every plan is priced at the standard renewal price its vendor states, not at a first-term offer.

Dupple card with five GPS dog collars in ranking order: Tractive DOG 6 editions $79 to $119, SATELLAI Collar Go $79.99, Garmin Alpha LTE $299.99, Fi Mini $99, Fi Series 3+ $129.

Dupple data: computed from vendor prices on November 4, 2026, the nine ranked picks total from $223.00 to $1,078.76 over 24 months, and the required plan makes up $99.98 to $339.00 of that.

The nine at a glance

The table lists the nine ranked picks in ranking order. Coverage, battery and waterproof figures are each vendor's own wording, shortened.

How the order is set

One rule orders the table. For each collar, take the US device price the vendor shows on November 4, 2026, add the cheapest plan the vendor requires for the collar to track, and total the two over 24 months. The lowest total ranks first. No battery figure, coverage type, waterproof rating or affiliate program moves a collar. Every plan is priced at its standard renewal price, not at a first-term offer. At most two numbered picks per brand; a brand's other models that pass are listed below the ranking with their total and price.

That gives Tractive DOG 6 editions ($223.00, $233.00 XL, $263.00 XL Adventure), SATELLAI Collar Go ($283.78), Garmin Alpha LTE ($399.97), Fi Mini ($438.00), Fi Series 3+ ($468.00), Halo Collar 4 ($663.76), SATELLAI Collar GPS Dog Fence ($663.78), Halo Collar 5 ($763.76) and SpotOn Omni ($1,078.76). Fi's third model, the Ultra at $638.00, passes the rule but is past the two-per-brand cap, so it sits in the box below the list. SpotOn Nova ($1,178.76) is the tenth on cost and sits there too.

Which costs least after 12 and 24 months?

Each total adds one device price to the plan that collar needs. The arithmetic is shown once per plan, from the vendor's own plan pages:

  • Tractive Basic: $108 billed annually, or $144 billed every two years, the Credit Card prices on Tractive's plans page. Twelve months is $108. Twenty-four months is $144, which is $72 less than two yearly payments.
  • Garmin LTE plan: $49.99 a year or $4.99 a month. Twelve months is $49.99 billed yearly, against $59.88 monthly; twenty-four months is $99.98 yearly, against $119.76 monthly.
  • Fi membership: $99 for 6 months, $189 for 1 year, $339 for 2 years, the standard renewal prices in Fi's billing article (read November 4, 2026). Twelve months is $189; twenty-four months is $339, against $378 in two yearly payments.
  • SATELLAI telecom plan: $107.79 billed every year, or $203.79 billed every two years. Twelve months is $107.79. Twenty-four months is $203.79.
  • Halo Pack Membership, Bronze tier: $9.99 a month. Twelve months is $119.88; twenty-four months is $239.76. Halo's annual option, which gives one month free, has no printed amount, so it is not priced.
  • SpotOn tracking plan: $101.88 billed yearly, or $179.76 every two years, on SpotOn's subscription page (read November 4, 2026). Twelve months is $101.88; twenty-four months is $179.76, against $203.76 in two yearly payments.

Fi's totals use the standard 1-year and 2-year membership, so each Fi device costs more over two years than the Tractive collars. The Halo totals assume monthly billing, the only Halo billing we could price. SpotOn's use its 1-year plan at 12 months and its 2-year plan at 24 months.

Tractive vs Fi: the two trackers that compete for the same buyer

On standard prices the DOG 6 is the lowest over 24 months, and the Fi Mini totals $438.00, with Fi's Series 3+ at $468.00. The gap is the membership: Tractive's Basic plan is $144 for two years, and Fi's is $339.

Tractive DOG 6 against the two Fi devices, standard plan prices, as of November 4, 2026
Tracker Device Plan for 2 years 24-month total Battery, as stated
Tractive DOG 6 $79 Basic, $144 $223.00 Up to 2 weeks
Fi Mini $99 Membership, $339 $438.00 Up to 2 months

Fi's stated battery is in months and Tractive's in weeks, so check both against how often you can charge.

The nine, in ranking order

1. Tractive DOG 6 (three editions): $223.00 over 24 months, for dogs above 9 lb

Dupple spec card for Tractive DOG 6 editions: $79 DOG 6, $89 XL, $119 XL Adventure (read Nov 4, 2026), battery up to 2 weeks (XL 6 weeks), 100% waterproof IP68, Basic plan $108 a year.
Dupple spec card

$79 for the DOG 6, $89 for the XL and $119 for the XL Adventure on Tractive's US store, read November 4, 2026, with no sale price shown. Their 24-month totals are $223.00, $233.00 and $263.00. They are one pick because Tractive sells them as editions of one DOG 6 product, and its FAQ says: "The DOG 6 XL/Adventure edition are for dogs above 44.1 lbs and 55.1 lbs, respectively. They have the same features, plus an impressive battery life of up to 6 weeks." Tractive states up to 2 weeks of battery on the DOG 6 and up to 6 weeks on the XL and XL Adventure, both with Power Saving Zones; all three are IP68.

Required plan: Basic, $108 a year or $144 for two years, read November 4, 2026. The DOG 6 page's plan table checks "Unlimited LIVE Tracking" in the Basic column, so Basic is the plan the collar needs to track. The same plan covers every edition.

Pros: the lowest 24-month total on the list; one plan for all three editions; IP68 waterproofing.

Cons: the two-week battery is the DOG 6's; the XL costs $10 more over 24 months and the XL Adventure $40 more.

Best for: a dog above 9 lb on the lowest two-year total, above 44 lb with the XL, or above 55 lb with the XL Adventure's extra-strong case.

FAQ

Which GPS dog collar has the lowest 24-month total?

The Tractive DOG 6, as of November 2026: $79 for the device plus $144 for the two-year Basic plan. It has the lowest total among the collars we could price in full.

Is Fi cheaper than Tractive?

Not on standard prices. The Tractive DOG 6 totals $223.00 over 24 months ($79 plus the $144 Basic plan), and the Fi Mini totals $438.00 ($99 plus the $339 membership). Fi's membership is the same price for every Fi tracker, and its two-year plan costs $195 more than Tractive's Basic plan.

Does a GPS dog collar need a subscription?

Tractive Basic, the SATELLAI telecom plan, the Garmin LTE plan, the Fi membership, the Halo Pack Membership and the SpotOn tracking plan are each required for the collar to show the dog's location. SpotOn's fences run without a plan, but its location does not.

Do GPS dog collars work without cell service?

Partly. Halo says its fences are stored in the collar for use without Wi-Fi or cellular. The collars on the list use cellular data to report location, so a dead zone can delay updates.

How long do the batteries last?

As each vendor states them: SATELLAI Collar Go up to 4.5 days, SATELLAI Collar up to 3 days, Halo Collar 5 up to 48 hours, Halo Collar 4 up to 40+ hours, Garmin Alpha LTE 18 hours in dynamic tracking, Fi Series 3+ up to 3 months, Fi Mini up to 2 months, all-day use with no hour figure for the SpotOn Omni, and the Tractive DOG 6 up to 2 weeks or the XL editions up to 6 weeks, both with Power Saving Zones. These are the vendors' conditions, not our tests.

Are these collars waterproof?

Tractive lists IP68 on the DOG 6, the XL and the XL Adventure. SATELLAI lists IP68 on both collars. Halo lists IP67 on the Collar 4 and the Collar 5. SpotOn lists IP67 on the Omni. Fi lists IP68/66K on the Series 3+, and IP68, tested in salt water, on the Mini. Garmin rates the Alpha LTE at 1 ATM (10 meters).

Methodology

We compared the GPS dog collars that a US buyer can order today from the vendor's own US store or pricing page, across Tractive, SATELLAI, Garmin, Fi, Halo and SpotOn. Every number comes from a vendor page read on November 4, 2026, never Amazon, review sites or memory. No paid placement decides the order.

The ranking rule is the one in "How the order is set": device plus required plan over 24 months, lowest total first, with at most two numbered picks per brand. Bundles, optional add-ons and annual options with no printed amount are left out. SATELLAI's bundles, read November 4, 2026 (a Collar Go with a 2-year plan at $263.79, a Collar at $659.99), would move the Collar ahead of Halo Collar 4 if counted, so the standalone plan prices are used. The DOG 6, XL and XL Adventure are one pick: three editions of one tracker, as Tractive's own FAQ describes them. The freed place went to SpotOn Omni, next on the rule. SpotOn's totals add its two-year tracking plan, the cheapest plan that shows the dog's location. Garmin's Alpha TT 25 ($349.99) is not priced: Garmin says it transmits "when used with a compatible handheld (sold separately)". We did not test any collar; battery, coverage and waterproof figures are the vendors' own statements.

Sources

The plan decides more than the device. Over two years the Tractive editions stay between $223.00 and $263.00, the Collar Go is $283.78, and the Fi trackers on the list cost $438.00 to $468.00 on standard membership prices. See SATELLAI's collars on its US store
