Govee vs Philips Hue (2026): Which Costs Less to Light a Room

Disclosure: this page carries no affiliate links. Rankings follow the criteria in the methodology.
Updated November 3, 2026: prices re-checked on each vendor's US store or pricing page. Compared from vendor specs and pricing pages, not tested hands-on.

Govee costs less to light a room, so this page ranks it first. On November 3, 2026, Govee's US store sells four A19 color bulbs for $33.99 and a TV Backlight 3 Lite for a 55 to 65 inch TV for $89.99, a one-room total of $123.98 with no hub. The matching Philips Hue set comes to $567.93, because Hue's TV strip needs a Bridge and a sync box. Hue's case is its ecosystem and warranty, not its price.
Pick Govee for color light in several rooms at the lowest cost, with no hub. Pick Philips Hue if you already own Hue lights, want a 2-year bulb warranty, or want the Zigbee Bridge for a larger system. Neither brand's lights carry a subscription on the pages we read.
Govee vs Philips Hue at a glance
The table compares what each brand sells for one room: an A19 color bulb, a TV strip for a 55 to 65 inch TV, and the hub each requires. Prices were read on each US store on November 3, 2026. Rows are in ranking order.
| Brand and products | Price (Nov 3, 2026) | Brightness and color | Hub | Warranty as listed | Room total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Govee: A19 H6006 bulbs and TV Backlight 3 Lite | $33.99 for 4 bulbs (sale price); $89.99 for the 55 to 65 inch strip | 1,000 lumens; 16 million colors | None needed | 12 months on bulbs and strips | $123.98 |
| Philips Hue: A19 60W color bulbs, Play gradient 55 inch, sync box and Bridge | $98.99 per 2 bulbs; $139.97 for the strip; $149.99 for the sync box; $79.99 for the Bridge | 810 lumens; Chromasync color | Bridge needed for voice and for the strip | 2 years in the page header; 3 years in its spec table | $567.93 |
Govee is first because its one-room total is lower: $123.98 against $567.93. Hue's set still ranks second if the cheaper Essential bulb is used, at $439.94.
The two brands in ranking order
Each card uses a Dupple spec card in place of a product photo.
1. Govee: the lower one-room cost

$33.99 for four bulbs, a sale price on Govee's US store on November 3, 2026, or $19.99 for a 2-pack. The H6006 is rated at 1,000 lumens, a color rendering index of 90 or higher, and 1 to 100 percent dimming.
It needs no hub. The page says the bulb "connects directly via Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth," and it lists Alexa, Google Assistant and Matter. The Govee Home app offers up to 54 scene modes and group control.
- The 4-pack works out to $8.50 a bulb, the lowest per-bulb price in the table below.
- No hub, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and Matter listed on the bulb page.
- 1,000 lumens, against 810 for Hue's standard bulb on the printed figures.
Cons: The H6006 does not work with a dimmer switch. The page says a bulb turned off in the app keeps a 0.5 W standby draw, so a wall switch must cut the power. Bulbs carry a 12-month warranty, against 2 years on Hue's bulb pages. The TV strip needs a 2.4 GHz network, because 5 GHz is not supported.
Best for: a buyer who wants color light in several rooms, runs it all from one app, and has no dimmer switches to keep.
2. Philips Hue: the ecosystem at the higher bill

$54.99 for one White and Color Ambiance A19 60W bulb, or $98.99 for a 2-pack, which is $49.50 a bulb, on the Hue US store on November 3, 2026. The bulb gives up to 810 lumens and a white range from 1,000 to 20,000 K, with color added.
Hue lists Bluetooth and Zigbee as its protocols and says the bulb "works without Wi-Fi." Voice assistants need the Hue Bridge, which costs $79.99. The standard Bridge allows 50 bulbs and 12 accessories, and it enables Hue Sync for surround lighting.
- A 2-year warranty in the bulb page's header, and a defined support period of at least 60 months.
- Matter appears in the bulb's list of third-party systems.
- The Essential A19 color bulb is the cheaper Hue option: $69.99 for a 4-pack, or $17.50 a bulb, with 800 lumens.
Cons: The printed lumen figure is 190 lower than Govee's 1,000. Voice control needs the $79.99 Bridge, which the Govee bulb does not. The bulb page's header says 2-year warranty, but its spec table says 3 years. This page uses the 2-year figure and marks the conflict.
Best for: a buyer who already runs Hue lights or a Bridge, wants Hue Sync for a TV or game setup, and accepts the higher bill.
Govee vs Philips Hue: the one-room cost
Our data: this is the cost section that sets the ranking. The room is four color bulbs, one TV strip for a 55 to 65 inch TV, and the hub each brand requires. Dupple computed every total from the vendor prices read on November 3, 2026.
| Item | Govee | Philips Hue, standard A19 | Philips Hue, Essential A19 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four color bulbs | $33.99 (H6006 4-pack, sale price) | $197.98 (two 2-packs at $98.99) | $69.99 (Essential 4-pack) |
| TV light strip, 55 inch class | $89.99 (TV Backlight 3 Lite, 55 to 65 inch) | $139.97 (Play gradient 55 inch, fits 55 to 64 inch TVs) | $139.97 (same strip) |
| Sync box the strip needs | Not needed | $149.99 (HDMI sync box 4K) | $149.99 (same sync box) |
| Hub | Not needed | $79.99 (Hue Bridge) | $79.99 (Hue Bridge) |
| One-room total, setup | $123.98 | $567.93 | $439.94 |
| Recurring fee, 12 months | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Total at 24 months | $123.98 | $567.93 | $439.94 |
The arithmetic, once: Govee is $33.99 plus $89.99, or $123.98. Hue's standard set is $197.98 plus $139.97, $149.99 and $79.99, or $567.93. The Essential set swaps the $197.98 for $69.99, giving $439.94. Govee's room costs about a fifth of the standard Hue room.
Neither brand's lights carry a subscription on the pages read, so the 12- and 24-month totals equal the setup price. Secure plans apply to cameras only, not bulbs or strips (Basic $39.99 per camera per year, Plus $99.99 per year, read Nov 3, 2026).
Hue vs Govee: which is cheaper per bulb
Govee is cheaper per bulb at every pack size the two brands print. Its 4-pack works out to $8.50 a bulb. Hue's cheapest per-bulb price is the Essential 4-pack at $17.50, and its standard color bulb costs $49.33 to $54.99 a bulb, depending on pack size.
| Bulb and pack | Price (Nov 3, 2026) | Per bulb | Lumens (as printed) | Hub for voice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Govee A19 H6006, 4-pack | $33.99 (sale price) | $8.50 | 1,000 | None |
| Govee A19 H6006, 2-pack | $19.99 | $9.99 (page's per-pack figure) | 1,000 | None |
| Hue Essential A19 color, 4-pack | $69.99 | $17.50 | 800 | Hue Bridge |
| LIFX Color 800 lumen, 2-pack | $29.98 | $14.99 | 800 | None |
| Nanoleaf Smart LED Bulbs, 2-pack | $29.99 | $15.00 | 1,000 max | Matter-compatible hub |
| Philips Hue A19 60W color, 2-pack | $98.99 | $49.50 | 810 | Hue Bridge |
| Philips Hue A19 60W color, 3-pack | $147.99 | $49.33 | 810 | Hue Bridge |
| Philips Hue A19 60W color, single | $54.99 | $54.99 | 810 | Hue Bridge |
The gap matters most in a room with four or more bulbs. Four standard Hue bulbs cost $197.98, against $33.99 for four Govee bulbs. The Essential bulb narrows the gap to $69.99, and its 800 lumens sit close to the standard bulb's 810. The lowest per-bulb price in the table is the Govee 4-pack.
Philips Hue vs Govee: TV light strips and the hub
Govee's TV Backlight 3 Lite costs $89.99 for a 55 to 65 inch TV, $69.99 for 40 to 50 inch and $109.99 for 75 to 85 inch. Its feature list names a camera rather than an HDMI box, and the page lists no hub. It needs a 2.4 GHz network, and it reads the screen with blank screen detection and DreamView syncing for up to seven sub-devices.
Hue's Play gradient 55 inch strip costs $139.97, with the original price shown as $274.99. It needs the Bridge and a sync box. The Hue HDMI sync box 4K costs $149.99 and reads the video or audio signal from an HDMI source before sending it to the Bridge. The 8K box costs $384.99.
The limit that matters most is the HDMI route. Hue's 4K page says smart TV apps are not supported, because their signal does not pass through an HDMI cable. Hue points to its Sync TV app on compatible Samsung TVs for that case. Govee's strip "instantly captures the color of any TV screen content without compatibility issues," according to its page. The 55 inch comparison is the clearest price gap: $89.99 for Govee against $369.95 for Hue's strip, sync box and Bridge.
The specs that decide the purchase
Brightness. Govee's H6006 is rated at 1,000 lumens, against up to 810 for Hue's standard bulb and 800 for its Essential. On the printed figures, Govee is the brighter bulb by 190 lumens.
Color. Govee lists a color rendering index of 90 or higher and a 6500 K color temperature in its spec table. Hue's standard bulb lists a color rendering index above 80 and a white range from 1,000 to 20,000 K, plus Chromasync color matching. The two spec sheets describe white light differently, so this page does not rank white quality.
Hub and Matter. Govee needs none, and its bulb page says "Matter Compatible." Hue's voice control needs the $79.99 Bridge, which also carries the TV strip and sync box. Hue's standard bulb page lists Matter among its third-party systems. Govee's strip page does not claim Matter. Hue's Play gradient page lists Matter "Via Hue Bridge".
Dimming and warranty. The Govee H6006 cannot use a dimmer switch. The Hue Essential bulb is dimmable with the app and a switch. Govee's warranty policy lists 12 months for bulbs and strips. Hue's bulb, strip, sync box and Bridge pages list 2 years in the header, and the 60W A19 spec table reads 3 years.
Other brands: Nanoleaf and LIFX
Nanoleaf and LIFX are not ranked and are not in the room totals. Each has one dated price, read November 3, 2026.
- Nanoleaf Smart LED Bulbs: $29.99 for a 2-pack (Matter over Wi-Fi), about $15 a bulb, on Nanoleaf's US store. The 4-pack is $49.99. The Matter over Thread single is $19.99 and was sold out on the day read. Matter over Wi-Fi models use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and need a Matter-compatible hub, while Matter over Thread models "require a compatible Thread Border Router." The product page lists a 2-year warranty. Nanoleaf Smart LED Bulbs on Nanoleaf's US store.
- LIFX Color 800 lumen bulb: $29.98 for a 2-pack, about $15 a bulb, on LIFX's US store. The page says "zero hub required" and lists Matter certification and a 2-year warranty. The single bulb costs $19.44 and was in stock on the day read. LIFX Color 800 lumen bulb on LIFX's US store.
Which should you buy
- Lowest room cost, no hub: Govee, at $123.98 for four bulbs and a 55 to 65 inch strip.
- Existing Hue lights or a Bridge: Philips Hue, and the sync box only if you want Hue Sync for HDMI sources.
- A budget Hue set: the Essential 4-pack with the $79.99 Bridge, $149.98 with no TV strip.
- A 2-year bulb warranty: Hue. Govee lists 12 months.
- A TV that streams through its own apps: Govee's strip, since Hue's HDMI sync box cannot read a built-in app's signal.

Methodology
What we compared: each brand's A19 color bulb, one TV light strip for a 55 to 65 inch TV, and the hub each brand requires. Prices were read in US dollars on each brand's US store (us.govee.com, philips-hue.com/en-us, nanoleaf.me/en-us and lifx.com) on November 3, 2026. Nanoleaf and LIFX get one dated price each and are not ranked.
Ranking rule: the order follows the one-room total, lowest first. Lumens, warranty and features only break ties, and no tie came up. On that rule Govee ranks first at $123.98 and Philips Hue second at $567.93. The Essential bulb gives Hue $439.94, which keeps the same order.
Hands-on: neither product was used for this page. Every spec comes from the vendor's own page, and each price is the one shown on the store on the read date. Prices are due a re-check each month and after each sale.
