Compared from Meta's own product and store pages, not tested hands-on. Every Meta price was read live on November 3, 2026, on Meta's US store in US dollars, with the stock status of the colour named. For most buyers, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is the pick: from $379 on Meta's US store (read November 3, 2026), with up to 8 hours of battery and 3K video. The Gen 1 is cheaper, but only one of its eight colours was in stock that day: the Skyler in shiny chalky grey with Sapphire Transitions lenses, at $284, list $379. Meta counts 3K video and twice the battery life as Gen 2 upgrades. The Gen 3 costs $449 (read November 3, 2026) for up to 9 hours of battery. The Oakley Meta HSTN and the Meta Ray-Ban Display are different products, covered below.

The short version

  • Gen 2 wins for most people. It costs $70 less than the Gen 3 and keeps the classic Wayfarer shape, with 3K video and up to 8 hours of battery.
  • Gen 1 is the budget buy, with limits. The only Gen 1 in stock on November 3, 2026 was the Skyler, $95 less than the Gen 2. Meta lists 1080p video and about half the battery life, against 3K video on the Gen 2.
  • Gen 3 is for the newest design. It adds one hour of battery (9 against 8), an assignable action button and the Aviator and Zena shapes, for $70 more than the Gen 2 (both read November 3, 2026).

3. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1: the budget pick, with limits

Dupple spec card for Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 Skyler: $284, list $379, in stock, read Nov 3, 2026, Up to 4 hours of moderate use, 1080p video, Prescription lens compatible.
Dupple spec card

Eight Gen 1 colours were read on November 3, 2026, and one was in stock. The Skyler in shiny chalky grey with Sapphire Transitions lenses was $284, list $379, and in stock. The other seven were sold out. Stock changes from day to day, so check your colour before you order.

  • Pro: It is the only Gen 1 in stock, and the cheapest in-stock Ray-Ban Meta we read on Meta's US store: $95 less than the Gen 2 and $165 less than the Gen 3.
  • Pro: Meta says Gen 1 and Gen 2 are both prescription lens compatible, and lists 32 GB of storage for Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

4. Oakley Meta HSTN: the low-impact sport and everyday pick

Dupple spec card for Oakley Meta HSTN: From $399, read Nov 3, 2026, Up to 8 hours of battery, 12 MP camera, 3K video, IPX4 water resistance.
Dupple spec card

From $399 on Oakley's US store ("Starting from $399.00", in US dollars, read November 3, 2026). Meta's own US store reads "Starting at $399" for the HSTN on the same day. Meta describes the HSTN as lifestyle-oriented, for low-impact sport and everyday wear.

  • Pro: Same IPX4 rating as the Gen 2. Meta calls the HSTN "more lifestyle-oriented" and points to the Oakley Meta Vanguard (IP67) for athletic training and sports such as mountain biking and trail running.
  • Pro: The same 12 MP camera and 3K video as the Gen 2, with sport-optimised lenses.
  • Con: It has 8 hours of battery, the same as the Gen 2, and costs $20 more than the Gen 2.
  • Con: The frame is an Oakley shape, not the Wayfarer look.

Best for: low-impact sport and everyday wear, such as golf, skateboarding and casual athletics, which is what Meta cites for the HSTN. For running or mountain biking, Meta points to the Oakley Meta Vanguard instead, from $499 with IP67 water resistance (read November 3, 2026).

5. Meta Ray-Ban Display: the one with a screen

Dupple spec card for Meta Ray-Ban Display: From $799, read Nov 3, 2026, In-lens display for Meta AI, Neural Band wrist control, 12 MP camera, in-lens viewfinder.
Dupple spec card

From $799 on Meta's US store (read November 3, 2026), with the Meta Neural Band. The black version was in stock that day. Meta's FAQ says the Display can be bought online or in store without a demo, and recommends an in-person fitting and demo before you buy.

  • Pro: An in-lens display that shows Meta AI answers, controlled by the Neural Band on the wrist.
  • Pro: A 12 MP camera with a viewfinder on the in-lens display, per Meta's page.
  • Con: It costs $420 more than the Gen 2 and $350 more than the Gen 3 (read November 3, 2026).
  • Con: Only the black version was read for stock on November 3, 2026, so check your colour before you plan around it.

Best for: buyers who want to see Meta AI answers and messages on the lens, and will pay for it.

Gen 1 vs Gen 2: is the saving worth it?

The Gen 1 Skyler in stock is $95 less than the Gen 2 (read November 3, 2026). That is the whole case for it. Meta says the Gen 2 has twice the battery life of the Gen 1 and adds 3K video, and that extra spec is what the difference buys. If you shoot short clips and want the cheapest in-stock Ray-Ban Meta, the Gen 1 Skyler is enough. If you want longer days and sharper video, the Gen 2 is the better buy.

Gen 1 against Gen 2 on the points Meta states: Meta US store prices read November 3, 2026, specs from Meta's Gen 2 product page read November 3, 2026
Point Gen 1 (Wayfarer and Skyler) Gen 2 (Wayfarer)
Price on Meta's US store $284, list $379, in stock (Skyler only); the Wayfarer colours were sold out From $379, in stock, read November 3, 2026
Battery Up to 4 hours, plus 32 with the case Up to 8 hours, plus 48 with the case
Video 1080p Up to 3K at 30 fps

Verdict: the Gen 2 for anyone who records more than a few clips a week, the Gen 1 Skyler for a fixed budget that can live with 1080p video and up to 4 hours of moderate use.

Gen 2 vs Gen 3: is the upgrade worth it?

The Gen 3 is the newer model, and it costs more than the Gen 2 for the Wayfarer, Aviator or Zena shapes (read November 3, 2026). Meta gives it one hour more battery, up to 9 hours against 8, and up to 50 hours with the case against 48. It also replaces the capture button with an assignable action button. The Gen 2 keeps the classic Wayfarer, Skyler, Headliner, Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics options, which the Gen 3 does not all match. Both shoot 3K video at 30 frames per second.

Gen 2 against Gen 3: Meta US store prices read November 3, 2026, specs as Meta states them
Point Gen 2 Gen 3
Price, Wayfarer matte black, clear $379, in stock (read November 3, 2026) $449, in stock (read November 3, 2026; "Starting at $449" on the Ray-Ban Meta page the same day)
Battery, glasses Up to 8 hours Up to 9 hours
Battery, with case 48 more hours Up to 50 more hours

Verdict: pay the difference only if the extra hour and the action button matter to you. For most people the Gen 2 does the same job.

Ray-Ban Meta vs Oakley Meta: which fits your life?

The Oakley Meta HSTN is the sport-styled alternative in Meta's lineup, but Meta positions it for low-impact sport and everyday wear. It costs $399 on Oakley's US store (read November 3, 2026), $20 more than the Gen 2, and it lists 8 hours of battery and IPX4 water resistance, the same rating as the Gen 2. The Ray-Ban Meta has the Wayfarer look and more frame styles on Meta's US store, and the Gen 3 adds a newer design. If you want the glasses for a shirt-and-jeans day, or for golf and casual sport, either fits. For running or mountain biking, Meta points to the Oakley Meta Vanguard instead.

Point Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 Oakley Meta HSTN
Price, lowest listed $379 (read November 3, 2026) $399 (read November 3, 2026)
Battery, glasses Up to 8 hours Up to 8 hours
Water resistance IPX4 IPX4

Verdict: the Oakley HSTN for low-impact sport and everyday wear, the Ray-Ban Meta for everyday wear, and the Oakley Meta Vanguard for running or mountain biking.

Wayfarer vs Headliner, standard vs large

The Wayfarer is the classic shape in the Ray-Ban Meta range. On the Gen 2, Meta's US store lists the Wayfarer in standard and large sizes. The Gen 2 Headliner colour page we read lists a standard size only, with a standard and high bridge fit, where the Wayfarer comes in standard and large. The Gen 3 Wayfarer also comes in standard and large sizes, at 51.5 g and 53.8 g. Meta's pages list the frame size and the bridge fit as separate choices, so check both before you order, and use Meta's virtual try-on to compare the shapes side by side.

Do you need the Display model?

Only if you want to see Meta AI answers and messages on the lens. The Display costs $799, which is $420 more than the Gen 2 (both read November 3, 2026). The Gen 2 and Gen 3 have no built-in display, so they cannot show anything on the lens. If you want a camera and open-ear audio, the Gen 2 covers that for less.

What do the glasses cost to set up?

None of the Meta pages we read lists a subscription for these glasses. The Gen 2 page does show a 0% APR monthly payment option (from $31.58 a month), which is financing on the price, not a fee. The setup cost is the price of the glasses. For the Display, Meta's page says single-vision prescription lenses can be ordered at the time of purchase, within a range of -4.00 to +4.00 total power, for an additional $200 ($999 total for the frame and prescription lenses), read November 3, 2026.

Dupple data: computed from each product's lowest listed US price (read November 3, 2026; for the Gen 1, the one colour in stock), the five products span $515, from the Gen 1 Skyler to the Display.

Total setup cost for each model: lowest listed US glasses price with its read date, and no recurring fee listed on the pages we read

Who should buy which

  • Most buyers: the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 (price in the table, read November 3, 2026), the best balance of price, battery and 3K video.
  • Newest design and the longest battery: the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 (price read November 3, 2026).
  • Tightest budget, short clips: the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 Skyler, the only Gen 1 in stock on November 3, 2026, if its shiny chalky grey colour suits you.
  • Low-impact sport and everyday wear: the Oakley Meta HSTN at $399 (read November 3, 2026), for golf, skateboarding or casual sport. For running or mountain biking, the Oakley Meta Vanguard, from $499 (read November 3, 2026).
  • A screen on the lens: the Meta Ray-Ban Display at $799 (read November 3, 2026), if your colour is in stock.

FAQ

Is the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 still worth buying?

Yes, if the price is the main concern and the colour you want is in stock. On Meta's US store on November 3, 2026, the Skyler in shiny chalky grey with Sapphire Transitions lenses was in stock on a sale price, $95 less than the Gen 2. Meta counts 3K video and twice the battery life as Gen 2 upgrades, so the Gen 1 gives you less of both.

What changed in the battery and camera from Gen 1 to Gen 2?

Meta says the Gen 2 has up to 8 hours of battery against up to 4 hours of moderate use on the Gen 1, and 48 hours with the case against 32. It records 3K video, where the Gen 1 records 1080p. The Gen 2 keeps a 12 MP ultra-wide camera. Battery life varies with music, calls and camera use, so treat these hours as Meta's figures.

Can you still buy the Gen 1 new?

Yes, but only one colour was in stock on Meta's US store when we read it on November 3, 2026: the Skyler in shiny chalky grey with Sapphire Transitions lenses, on a sale price. The other seven Gen 1 colours we read were sold out. Check the colour you want before you buy, because stock changes.

Does the Gen 2 need a subscription?

None of the Meta pages we read lists a subscription for the Gen 2. Meta AI features are only available in selected countries, and the glasses need the Meta AI app.

Can you get prescription lenses for these glasses?

Yes. Meta says the Gen 1 and Gen 2 are prescription lens compatible, and the Gen 2 page lists a prescription range of -12.00 to +6.00 total power. Meta says some sun lens colours are not available in prescription. For the Display, Meta's page gives a prescription range of -4.00 to +4.00 total power and says single-vision lenses can be ordered at the time of purchase for an additional $200 ($999 total for the frame and prescription lenses). The pages we read do not state a prescription lens price for the other models.

Which frame fits a large head?

Meta sells the Wayfarer in standard and large sizes, and the Gen 3 Wayfarer weighs 53.8 g in large against 51.5 g in standard. Meta lists the frame size and the bridge fit separately, so check both before you order.

Is there a Ray-Ban Meta discount code?

No. Dupple holds no discount code for Meta, Ray-Ban or Oakley, so this page does not list one. On Meta's US store on November 3, 2026, several Gen 1 colours showed a sale price against a list price, but the marked-down Wayfarer colours were sold out.

Methodology

We compared the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3, the Oakley Meta HSTN and the Meta Ray-Ban Display. Every Meta price was read live on November 3, 2026 on Meta's US store, in US dollars, with its stock status for the colour named. For each product we quote the lowest listed price on the pages we read, and for the Gen 1 we read all eight colours. The Oakley Meta HSTN price was read live on Oakley's US store the same day. Battery, camera, video, storage and water resistance figures come from Meta's own product pages, read on November 3, 2026. We did not test any of these glasses hands-on. Meta's own figures are claims. We re-check prices on each update of this page, and after any Meta sale.

Ranking: the three Ray-Ban Meta generations come first, ordered by fit for most buyers (Gen 2 for price, battery and 3K video, then Gen 3, then Gen 1), then the Oakley Meta HSTN and the Meta Ray-Ban Display, which are different product types. Payouts do not affect the order.
