Learn how to design a logo in minutes without any design skill

In graphic design, AI is revolutionizing how logos are created. A logo that would take a human designer hours, if not days, to create can be generated by AI in just a few seconds.

Apart from getting multiple ideas quickly, you can refer to specific genres, and techniques, and even ask the AI to imitate your favorite designer!

This is why we're going to use Midjourney here.

While the logos might not always be perfect, it's a great tool to get logo ideas quickly and easily.

Remember that AI is so much more powerful when combined with a human like you!

How to make the perfect prompt

The outcome will depend greatly on your input. That's why it's important to know how a prompt will be understood by Midjourney, so that you can iterate and improve the results you're getting.

Start with a simple prompt like this (type /imagine first):

/imagine a mascot logo of a robot, simple, vector, flat colors --no shading details, no text

How does it work?

Let's explain the prompt we just used:

/imagine a mascot (1) logo of a robot (2), simple, vector, flat colors (3) --no shading details, no text (4)

(1): the type of logo you want

(2): the subject

(3): the style

(4): what to exclude

The more data you give the AI to work with, the more accurate results you’ll get.

We will now modify the prompt so you can better understand how it works.

Choosing the type of logo you want

First, decide on what type of logo you want.

Keep in mind that Midjourney isn't the best option when dealing with text, so you may want to use Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop or Figma for this.

Lettermark Logo

A lettermark logo uses a stylized letter or multiple letters.

Here’s a prompt we'll use:

/imagine a lettermark logo of letter A, serif font, vector, minimalist design, flat colors --no realistic details, no text

Mascot Logo

A mascot logo features a cartoon character or animal.

Prompt:

/imagine a mascot logo of a pinguin holding a beer, simple, vector, flat colors --no shading details, no text

Emblem Logo

An emblem logo uses a symbol or crest as the main part of the design, usually with some text embedded in it. Example prompt:

/imagine an emblem logo for a football club, vector, simple, vintage style --no photorealistic details, no text

Refer to artistic genres/movements

Different art styles create different feelings. By referring to specific genres in your prompts, you can achieve a certain vibe for your logo.

Psychedelic Art

Prompt:

/imagine a logo for an ice cream brand, vector, psychedelic art style, bright colors, surreal imagery --no text, no realistic details

De Stijl

Prompt:

/imagine a logo for an ice cream brand, vector, De Stijl style, geometric shapes, primary colors --no text, no realistic details

Pop Art

Prompt:

/imagine a logo for an ice cream brand, vector, pop art style, bold colors, comic strip elements --no text, no realistic details

Use names of famous designers

By using the names of famous logo designers, you can tell the AI to imitate a certain aesthetic or style.

Paul Rand

Prompt:

/imagine a flat vector logo of a lion head, minimalist design, by Paul Rand --no realistic photo details, no text

Piet Mondrian

Prompt:

/imagine a flat vector logo of a lion head, minimalist design, by Piet Mondrian --no realistic photo details, no text

Pablo Picasso

Prompt:

/imagine a flat vector logo of a lion head, cubism style, by Pablo Picasso --no realistic photo details, no text

Describe the artistic technique

Referring to specific artistic techniques can help you get better results.

Outline Technique

Prompt:

/imagine a simple logo of a diamond, outline style, vector --no realistic photo details, no text

Gradient Technique

Prompt:

/imagine a simple logo of a diamond, gradient colors, vector --no realistic photo details, no text

Screen-print Technique

Prompt:

/imagine a simple logo of a diamond, screen-print style, bold colors, vector --no realistic photo details, no text

Tell the AI what NOT to do

Sometimes, the best way to get what you want is to know what you don't want.

That's why you need to provide clear guidelines for what you don’t want in your design.

Exclude elements like text, shadows, and realistic details to avoid overly complex or cluttered designs, and always start with "--".

--no text, no realistic photo details, no shadows

Conclusions

Using AI tools like Midjourney can streamline your logo design process and help you explore a lot of ideas quickly. While AI won’t entirely replace a logo designer’s job, it can generate more ideas faster, leaving the final tweaks and polishing to the expertise of a professional designer. Whether you're a seasoned designer or just starting out, Midjourney can be a valuable tool in your logo design process.
