Transform your reference images into stunning, high-quality videos with the power of Adobe Firefly’s AI-driven creativity.

The AI bandwagon is getting loaded. Adobe joined the race to automate your online tasks by introducing Adobe FireFly. It’s an AI tool that transforms your simple ideas, like a few words or a reference image, into amazing visuals in no time. All it takes is an idea. Create a poster, edit a photo, or even make a short video using just an image. Firefly makes it easy, even if you're not a design pro. It’s fast, fun, and built to help you bring your ideas to life without needing complicated software.

In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of creating amazing videos using reference images. You’ll learn how to access Adobe Firefly, set the video parameters, upload the first frame, and craft a prompt to generate a video. It’s easy peasy lemon squeezy.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to:

  • Access Firefly
  • Set video parameters
  • Write a prompt and generate a video
  • Download your creation

Let’s get on with it!

Step 1 - Access Firefly

You can access Firefly on a free account and get up to 2 frame-to-video generations. For continued access, you need a subscription. Since Firefly is still in beta mode, the second frame might not be accessible in most regions.

Go to Adobe Firefly. Log in to a free or paid account.

Click the ‘Video’ tab and then select ‘Image-to-video.’

The Firefly dashboard will open. Here, you can find the typical features that most AI video generators offer: a prompt box and a left navigation bar with settings.

The interface is simple, intuitive, and easy to navigate. Although it doesn’t offer anything different from other AI video generators.

First, figure out what you want for your first Firefly video. For this tutorial, we will generate a video using a picture of a little girl eating ice cream.

Click the first frame in the chat box. Upload your first reference image from your computer. Alternatively, you can load the picture from your Adobe cloud storage as well.

Step 2 - Set video parameters

The settings are an important part of AI video generation. Start by selecting the resolution. Click the resolution drop-down. There are three resolution settings available: 540p, 720p, and 1080p. We will choose 1080p to get a good, high-quality video.

Next, select the aspect ratio. Widescreen is for YouTube videos, vertical orientation is for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube shorts, and square is for testing purposes. We will use the widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio to show you the end results.

Frames per second and the video duration are not available at the time of writing this tutorial. You don’t have an option to choose the frames per second or the video duration. They are hidden when frames are in use, because they don't support frames.

Next is the camera motion. You can tilt the camera in different directions to create a motion. The purpose of camera motion in AI video generators is to add realism, depth, and storytelling flair to otherwise static scenes. It helps with:

  • Creates cinematic feel: Panning, zooming, or rotating the “camera” can make AI-generated videos look more dynamic and professional.
  • Adds depth and perspective: Simulated motion gives flat images a 3D-like sense of space and scale.
  • Guides viewer focus: Motion directs attention to specific parts of the scene, like a character or object.
  • Enhances storytelling: Subtle camera moves can suggest emotion, urgency, or mood shifts without changing the scene itself.
  • Increases engagement: Movement keeps the viewer’s eyes engaged, making the video more interesting to watch.

For our video, we will use the ‘static’ option.

Specify 200,000 for the seed. A seed in AI models is like a starting point for randomness. It’s a number that tells the model how to generate results consistently. If you use the same prompt and the same seed, you’ll get the same output every time. Change the seed, and you’ll get something different. It’s super useful when you want to recreate or slightly tweak results without losing control.

Now, choose an image for the end frame. This can be a continuation of the first image or a different image. It depends on what you want to create. The end frame helps AI create a coherent story that you can use in your advertisements or on social media. Adobe will let you resize the image and move the rectangle box to focus on the main action in the image.

Now that our image frames are ready, it’s time to write a prompt!

Step 3 - Write a prompt and generate a video

A precise yet detailed prompt can do wonders with AI bots. Take your time to think of a prompt or use the following to get started. Modify it to suit your taste and needs.

Prompt:

Create a video showing a woman enjoying an ice cream. She takes a bite, smiles brightly, and then looks into the camera, smiling with joy, to show her satisfaction. Her expression is playful and cheerful, almost laughing, with natural, fluid motion from start to finish.

Click ‘Generate.’

The video is not bad. It could be better. Compared to other AI video generators, Adobe Firefly falls short in several areas. But it can be fun creating videos with it.

Step 4 - Download your creation

To download the video you created, simply click ‘Download’ in the video player, and the video will be downloaded to your computer. There’s no option to save the video in Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive.
