📉 X has lost 30 billion in value under MuskLINK
Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter for $44 billion in 2022 has significantly devalued, now worth under $10 billion based on Fidelity's latest financial disclosure.
Fidelity, which initially invested $19.66 billion in Twitter through its Blue Chip Fund, now values its investment at $4.19 billion, reflecting a drop of over 78%.
The loss in Twitter's value, now called X, is attributed to advertisers leaving, user dissatisfaction, and Musk's controversial actions and political standpoints, contributing to its plummeting worth.
💥 California governor vetoes hotly contested AI safety billLINK
California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed the Safe and Secure Innovation for Frontier Artificial Intelligence Models Act (SB 1047), citing concerns about the bill's broad scope and potential burden on AI companies.
Governor Newsom stated that SB 1047 could give the public a false sense of security and hamper innovation, despite agreeing on the need for safety protocols and clear consequences for bad actors in the AI industry.
The bill, which faced opposition from tech companies and notable political figures, sought to impose stringent requirements on AI models costing over $100 million to train, including safeguards like a "kill switch" and protections for whistleblowers.
🤖 TikTok-parent to develop new AI model using Huawei chipsLINK
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is planning to develop a new AI model using Huawei's Ascend 910B chips, according to three anonymous sources.
The development comes as U.S. restrictions push ByteDance to source chips from domestic suppliers like Huawei for the new AI model.
Despite ByteDance's increased focus on AI, a TikTok spokesman in Washington D.C. has denied that the company is developing any new AI models.
🎮 Epic Games sues Google and Samsung over app-store competitionLINK
Epic Games has filed a new antitrust lawsuit against Google and Samsung, accusing them of conspiring to block third-party app stores via Samsung's "Auto Blocker" feature that restricts app installations to only Google and Samsung stores.
Epic claims Samsung's "Auto Blocker" forces users through a complex process to install third-party app stores, making it significantly harder to do so, and alleges the feature doesn't actually assess the safety or security of apps or sources.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has acknowledged that while there is no concrete evidence of Google and Samsung colluding yet, the new lawsuit aims to reveal such information during the legal discovery process and potentially affect how app store policies are enforced.
💡 Breakthrough 32-bit microprocessor costs less than $1 to makeLINK
British startup Pragmatic Semiconductor introduced the Flex-RV, a 32-bit bendable microprocessor that runs machine learning models and costs less than a dollar to produce.
Instead of traditional silicon, the chip uses indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) for flexibility, allowing it to be printed on plastic substrates, thus avoiding expensive packaging requirements.
Though the Flex-RV operates at a modest 60 kHz clock speed, its ultra-efficient design makes it suitable for low-power applications such as disposable medical devices and flexible health wearables.
