๐ค NASA delays astronaut return againLINK
NASA has postponed the return of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams from the ISS to late March 2025, extending their mission significantly beyond the initial plan.
The astronauts initially traveled to the ISS on Boeing's Starliner but will now return on SpaceX's Crew-9 mission due to issues with the Starliner's propulsion system.
Wilmore and Williams will spend over nine months in space, as Crew-10's launch is delayed to March 2025, allowing time for a handover and spacecraft preparations.
๐ฅ TP-Link routers face US banLINK
The most popular home internet router brand in the United States, TP-Link, is under investigation and might be banned due to national security concerns.
Three U.S. government departments, including Commerce, Defense, and Justice, have launched probes to determine if these routers from a Chinese firm pose a security threat.
TP-Link routers have been linked to potential cyberattacks on U.S. entities, and officials suspect they might be sold at a loss, violating federal antimonopoly laws.
๐ Intel finally notches a GPU winLINK
Intel's Arc B580 "Battlemage" GPU has been highly praised, quickly selling out upon release, and Intel is working to replenish inventory weekly to meet high demand.
The Arc B580 has received positive reviews for being an outstanding budget GPU option, outperforming competitors like the RTX 4060 and AMD RX 7600 in various aspects including price and performance.
Despite rapid sellouts, the supply of the Arc B580 is considered substantial, and restocks are expected soon through major retailers, with additional models priced at both $250 and higher.
๐ค OpenAI's o1 model now available for developersLINK
OpenAI has given API developers complete access to the latest o1 model, replacing the previous o1-preview version, as part of several new updates available starting today.
The updated o1 model reinstates key features such as developer messages and a "reasoning effort" parameter, allowing for more tailored chatbot interactions and efficient handling of queries.
The new model delivers results faster and more cost-effectively with enhanced accuracy, using 60% fewer thinking tokens and improving accuracy by 25 to 35 percentage points on various benchmarks.
๐ Chinese astronauts set new spacewalk recordLINK
Chinese astronauts Cai Xuzhe and Song Lingdong set a new record by completing a 9-hour and 6-minute spacewalk, surpassing NASA's previous longest spacewalk record from 2001.
The Shenzhou-19 crew performed significant tasks during their extravehicular mission, such as installing debris protection devices and inspecting external equipment on the Tiangong space station.
Wearing advanced Feitian space suits, Cai and Song demonstrated China's growing advancements in space exploration, with Song becoming the first 1990s-born Chinese astronaut to conduct a spacewalk.
๐ค Grammarly acquires CodaLINK
Grammarly has announced the purchase of the AI productivity startup Coda, positioning the combined company to challenge workplace tool giants like Notion with enhanced collaborative features.
After the acquisition, Shishir Mehrotra, co-founder of Coda, will succeed Rahul Roy-Chowdhury as CEO of Grammarly, signaling a strategic integration of both companies' technologies.
The merged entity, retaining the Grammarly name, plans to integrate Codaโs advanced tools with Grammarlyโs writing assistant to create a comprehensive AI-native productivity suite, aimed at increasing user productivity.
